Free Laptops - Credit Checks?!

Hey
I'm interested in taking up the free laptop offers that are on currently in PC World, I know it's not the best deal out there (before anyone jumps in with the "you pay more for the laptops/broadband etc etc") but was wondering, do they do a credit check? I don't have a great credit file and don't want to even chance it if they credit check you...
Does anyone know? Sorry if this has been asked before, I didn't have a lot of time to look back for similair posts..
Thanks guys!!

Yes,they will do a credit check but experience tells me its hit or miss, even with adverse credit!0

I am pretty sure they do, however, I do agree it is pretty hit and miss.
I wanted to switch to AOL broadband last year as I had been with BT and the broadband kept dropping out, all the time.
Anyway, Carphone Warehouse had an an offer of a free laptop with AOL broadband, I applied, I have a fine credit record, score was 839 (or thereabouts) but it came back declined.
I then went to all my credit records, all fine, went direct to AOL, who did a credit check and I passed, although there was no laptop involved and it was significantly cheaper than CPW.
I know that obviously you don't have a right to have a contract or such with a particular company and they can refuse you, but I found this bizarre as I hadn't been refused for credit before.
Anyway, I think they do check you but I am positive someone more knowledgable will be along and could possibly point you in the right direction as to which provder might be the most suitable given your circumstances.

I know it can be hit or miss, but it's soooo embarrassing when it's declined, don't know if I can put myself through the shame of it...is it just me who feels this way??
Thanks for replying all!0
