Wma - Mp3

Anyone reccomend a good (free) program for converting wma files to mp3 files or a program for ripping cd's directly to mp3 files?

Thanks

  • I use CDEx from HERE. It is freeware and does the job with minimum fuss.

Bit of a short memory, haven't we intel?

In this thread you were complaining of jumping/skipping when using Media player.

I agree that they should do the same, but WMP doesn't do anything well.

No not a short memory at all just keeping things simple, even though it
jumped a bit it still does the same job, just like a Bentley and a Robin Reliant
they still do the same job but how good they do the job is a different matter.

I for one use CDtoMP3 Free for this particualar job but that means the OP
would have to download unfamiliar software, and seeing as I dont know there skill level I wouldnt point them in that direction.

    HTH

Get AudioGrabber for ripping CDs and dB PowerAmp for converting tracks.
dBPowerAmp is certainly different to WMP and has nothing like the restrictions.
And if someone asked for recomendations on buying a car Reliant certainly wouldn't come into the reckoning.

Not used AudioGrabber myself but as you already use dBpower AMP for converting, surprised that you don't use the dMC Audio CD for ripping as Audio CD Input connects to freedb database and auto-fills track details! as shown on the weblink above.

Was just recomending a couple of easy to use progs that I've used since the early days of MP3. But I don't think I've ripped any CDs in the last 2yrs. AudioGrabber also uses, or at least it used to, the freedb database.

Just tried it out of curiosity and you're 100% right so Audiograbber is redundant and dBPowerAmp is all that is needed, but I think I remember, for it to convert WMA you need to install another codec from the same site. But maybe it is part of the latest version anyway.

Just checked that now too, and although version 9.1 of the WMA codec is available, I am a bit suspicious of Microsoft and its DRM so would stick with the old version 8.
