I think its all really scary and I'm seriously considering closing my account. Live help were fantastic at sorting it out but if I had not checked my account for a couple of days (v likely as I am a v busy mum) so many people would have been ripped off. This site is great - I headed straight here for advice - cheers folks!! xx

  • Savingsgirl, don't give up on Ebay - I have been using it for about 3 years, and this is the only time I have had a problem. I never reply to any of the mails supposedly from Ebay or Paypal asking for my details, but I did open a false item which someone sent me in My Messages.

Just be really careful to only input your password when the padlock appears at the bottom right of the screen, and change it regularly to something no-one could guess.

    Good luck

fantastic - it is sorted- thank you soooooooooo much

    Well not exactly.

You need to know how your account was hacked.

Did you respond to a "phishing" email? You need to know all about these before you make any financial transactions on the internet.

Could you have a keystroke logger running on your PC? I guess you're cursed with running Windows - if so, do you have XP, with Service Pack 2, all the security updates, firewall on (preferably a broadband router connected via ethernet too), and anti-virus software which is up to date?

If it were just a "dictionary attack" (random passwords being tried) on your account, then changing your password regularly is unlikely to help - it needs to be something which is hard to guess - a lot of random characters, upper and lower case, including symbols.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
