Will a bank honour a slightly torn cheque?

I once heard that you can write a cheque on a cow if you want. Don't know if it's true or not...
This originates with a short story by A P Herbert in which the main character (Albert Haddock) wrote a cheque on a cow which a fictional court ruled the bank had to accept.
Mr Haddock was what a court would rule a vexacious litigant but can be very amusing.
Legally there's nothing to stop it. but in reality there are two obstacles:
cows are expensive - you wouldn't want to write a cheque on one; the bank would keep it and charge you for its storage for 7 years:rotfl: plus a bomb for processing it
Banks have T&Cs these days that cheques must be on their official forms so they would be entitled to refuse to handle it0 -

What would happen if you "burned" the torn edge slightly and claimed the other half was burned?0
