Will a bank honour a slightly torn cheque?

Hi,
I've just received a cheque for a rather large sum of money, and as i was pulling it out of the envelope, the top left corner tore slightly.
Its all still in one piece (thanks to the fact it was perforated onto the bottom of a sheet of ordinary paper), so all the details are still there, it just tore through the senders address slightly.
I would ask the bank, but they will be closed tomorrow, and I can deposit it via a hole in the wall. I can't get in to town again until thursday.
Thanks.

Yep, as long as the details can be read they will honour anything.

As far as I am aware, they'd accept a bank note torn in half if the serial numbers matched.
A slightly torn cheque is nothing to worry about at all.0 -
I would just pay it in through the hole in the wall. Be very surprised if you have any problem.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

If it is for a large amount pay it at the counter and ignore last posting. This will make it look as if you have something to hide and will arouse suspicion.
Explain to cashier what happened and they will write something like 'torn in error' on back of cheque and stamp it - this should make it ok0 -
Its for a fairly large amount (£800).
It has to be paid into my Abbey business account, which I can't do over the counter. All Abbey business transactions have to be done via a hole in the wall. I could post the cheque to the bank, but don't want to risk it getting lost.0 -
i work for a bank and we accept cheques in any state as long as they are within date and have all the relevant numbers on the bottom of them.
i wouldn`t worry at all.Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

It will be fine, they will probably just repair it with a bit of tape.0

At our branch if cheques are torn we ask the customer how it happened, which usually is by opening the envelope, we then write the explanation on the back of the cheque, and put a rubber stamp on the back. There shouldn't be a problem.0

If you are paying it in an envelope maybe you could put a note in with it as to how it happened.0

I once heard that you can write a cheque on a cow if you want. Don't know if it's true or not...0
