  • My problem has been the Lloyds-TSB and there charges, for example before the bank put there charges on to the account I was IN my overdraft limit, so over a period of time the charges build up and up and they egnore my letters asking for help and then trying to speak to someone in New Dheli didn't help ?
I am not on any debt management schemes I have all my money (from this week) paid into my RBS current account:j .
I also have a basic RBS Key Account that has now got all my DD's & standing orders set up on it and each month after I have been paid I transfer by BAC's enough money to cover the outgoings in the account
  • Yes I am saying that the bank charges have pushed me over my agreed limit, and yes I am paying unauthorised fee's.
C.A.B agree with me I am paying unauthorised fee's and have taken on my case, surely I'm not the only one this has happend to
  • I am worried this will happen to me as I am very close to my overdraft limit (about £15 away!) and if they impose one overdraft charge that will take me over my limit, with no more payments due to go in to cover it. I might pay in just £50 or so, to keep me within my limit even if they do impose a charge or two while my DMP kicks in.... It would be worth it to save £20 a day!!!

How much over your limit are you?

But why were you getting any bank charges applied in the first place if you had enough money in the account to cover all your DD's etc
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

I for my sins got myself muddled up, silly I know but I am paid every 4 weeks, DD's go out monthly and as my wife lost her job our outgoing still stayed the same but loss of income shrank our allowance, Over the last 3 months i have been working hard to get on top of our income and expenditure, having sorted out the outgoings it became clear that the LloydsTSB were taking more and more in charges so that even though I had been able to sort my finances out I needed help from the bank to clear up the overdraft, THATS when the fun began as the Bank were only interested in the charges, I am in a vicious circle which on my own can't break so I have turned to C.A.B to help me and of course I started this thread for support and hopefully others can learn from my mistakes
  • I still dont understand why you were being charged if you were inside your overdraft limit? Yes, if you had gone over, or something had not been paid, but why if this wasnt the case?
  • OK as I was struggling to sort out my finances so ended up using the overdraft, I have an over draft of £540, when a DD bounced they CHARGED me a fee, this then sent me OVER the agreed limit, it then snow balled to its present state, Im not looking for critissium just advice its simple Lloyds-TSB are playing hard ball and causing me a lot of STRESS and DEPRESSION I have explained that I was a muppet and have struggled to pull together my finances OK BUT now the Lloyds-TSB won't help me out their spiralling charges are bad,

I have just seen this article on the sky web site news :-
    Overdraft charges
This is an area where the OFT has been active in for some time. The Appeal Court is due to hear the banks’ test case against the regulator, in which it has found that the current model of levying overdraft charges falls foul of fair contract terms.

But there’s already evidence that banks are altering their current overdraft charging structure. The likelihood is that banks will increase the amount they charge us if we go over the agreed limit. This will be necessary for them to protect as much of their profits as possible.

In short, this is not a good time to go overdrawn. Indeed, there will be some cases where, unlike in the past, banks will simply close a person’s account rather than allow them to rack up a big overdraft.

I can appreciate the difficulties you're currently in, and I don't mean to criticise, but in your first post you mention that you've already been successfull in clawing back a load of bank charges from LTSB previously. Look at it from their point of view, they're hardly going to be lenient on you after that, and now you're back in the same position of racking up even more charges!

I'm surprised they've let you keep an accoutn with them at all to be honest. I don't think the fact you've moved all your banking over to another account will do you many favours either as they will now be expecting you to abandon this account and possibly have to go through court procedures to regain their money.

Can you afford to put some money into this account each week/month to show willing that you intend to clear the overdraft off? Someone earlier mentioned posting a SOA so the more experienced folks here can help you sort out your finances and budget.

Good luck with getting it all sorted, there's a lot of very good people on here than can help you if you let them :A

Thanks for that yes although I did off my own back move my wages to another bank (supported by CAB later) I am wanting to clear up the arrears asap, I have left the C Benifit going into the account and have CAB looking at the case on my behalf and :jpraise be the collections operator has informed me tonight that she has stopped Novembers charge and they are waiting for the CAB to contact them, also She said that they will stop the harassing phone calls for 3 weeks so things are now moving to a settlement, the operator also said that I should be able to reclaim the charges BUT as we know no decision is due until Jan and even then with the economic climate as it is who knows:rolleyes:

I want to apologise as reading back on my post last night I think I came over rather harshly, sorry :o

I can now see that by making a simple mistake such as a small overspend which then results in a bounced DD can create a much larger debt with subsequent charges spiralling out of control, especially when finances are extremely tight to start with.

I'm glad the bank has finally seen sense and put a stop to any further charges to help you get this sorted out. Fingers crossed the CAB will help and hopefully get some of those charges refunded to you :A
