Nokia 6680 on three. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

My problem is that when im in my home, i have very bad 3G signal.
But in 2.5G mode my phone has excellent signal.

The phone switches from 3G mode to 2.5G mode all day long when im in my home.

This means that 50% of the time when someone tries to phone me, and i have no 3G signal people cant get in touch with me.

I also try to call someone and the phone hangs up once, twice, maybe three times before it actually starts ringing. Takes 30-60secs to call someone!!!

And then if i am lucky enough to speak to someone in 3G mode all of a sudden after a minute or 2 the call gets cut off, cause the phone switches to 2.5G mode.

ITS JUST SO FUSTRATING and doesnt help that three's customer service are actually useless telling me to make sure i have Three UK selected in connections options.

Is there any way of forcing my phone to stay in 2.5G mode cause i do not use any of the 3G services. Also by doing this does it breach any of three's terms and conditions?

I know its a cheap service for what im getting but i still expect a reasonably good service, not alot of !!!! what im getting at the moment.

Anyone i can contact at three that speaks english and can help me?

Cheers

I seem to recall a thread a while ago, that mentioned the same thing, but I'll be damned if I can remember where I saw it.

From what I can remember though,is that 3 send you a text message, politely reminding you that you should leave your phone on 3G,and not switch and leave it on 2G,and that you signed a contract accordingly.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got some of the details wrong, but I think that's the jist of it.

As someone who is also on 3,it pees me off when the same type of thing happens, and I would sure as hell like to find a way around it,as I too do not use the 3G services offered.

  • hi there

i have the same problem as you _pale_

i use ********** THIS ********** SOFTWARE (FIELD TEST) so the signal would lock to 2g

i have used this for about 10months with no problems at all
all it does is you use the 2g (O2 NETWORK) signal instead of 3g

ONCE you download the software on your phone - just load it up and go to the FIELD TEST heading 81.1 (protocol change between GSM and WCDMA)

theN select OPTIONS and then EXECUTE and then 1 and press OK
the phone will restart and come back on and it will be on 2g mode

    hope this helps

    Thanks for the replies.

Is there any chance i will get billed for breaching the T's and C's by not using 3G.

I think ill phone them up 1 more time to sort it out and switch me 2.5G mode, if not ill have to use this software.

    Thanks

  • In my opinion, you can use the phone on 2g service. You wont be able to use the 3G services obviously and also video calling

Ive been using my sim free 6630 on 2g and never had a text. Ive hardly lost signal either!.

I only got a text through when i put my sim card in a 8800 (yes it works even though its a 2g phone!)

So im guessing if you use a 3g compatible phone, your fine. But if you use a 2G phone with NO capability of 3G then they send you a text.

Your option is to get the phone reset by cable to be able to set the phone into GSM mode. You need a BB5 enabled box to do this I beleive.

You shouldnt have a problem then and you will benifit the full signal of 2G

  • What does the text message say?
I once received a text warning me of the terms I was breaking, they later cancelled my contract and I lost out on cashback, I'd never do it again, in fact, never go with "3" again!
