Looks a nice idea, but read the warning texts about how you need to carefully phrase the answer that you give .....
OH suspects this is an email-address-collecting exercise

Hi there,
Our site isn't a rip-off, or an email collecting exercise.
We are a free to play site - we don't intend to collect any money from you at all. We hope to at some point support the site through advertising, but at the moment we are just intent on building up the competition, and providing some fun.
It's true we have no winners yet - but we've only been going for a few days! Some of the answers we have received to our first picture are very close, and we're sure there will be a winner soon. We DO insist on the winning guess matching the exact wording our judges have decided on for the answer, otherwise the competition would be too easy - and we want each prize to last a little while and give everyone a chance (this way we can also keep the prizes a little higher - if they only lasted a couple of days, they would be very low indeed).
We do collect your email address when you take part, but only for the purposes of sending you confirmation emails, and emails to tell you whether you have won or lost (and whether a new picture is now available). As our terms and conditions state, we will NEVER sell or divulge your email address to any third party.
Plus, if you wish you can remove your email address from our database completely at any time by clicking on the 'remove' link in the confirmation email you are sent. This completely removes your email address and ensures you will receive no further emails (unless you decide to play again).
We don't believe it's fair to put us in this section of a forum - as it isn't true at all. We're just a small site trying to gain interest while offering a genuine competition.
Many thanks,
Guessapicture.com0 -

Hi there,
ebsay2000 - this is not spam, we're not trying to advertise on this forum in any way - we're just trying to answer the concerns of the contributors on this thread. How else can we defend ourselves?
I hope we've managed to answer your concerns but if you have any further queries please don't hesitate to send us a message.
Many thanks,

Hi - could you maybe explain how the site works then? I did a search for Myriad, the stated owners of guessapicture, and couldn't find anything about them relating to the guessapicture site. However I did come across Myriad Marketing, and if they are the same company that owns guessapicture, then they state in their terms and conditions that they reserve the right to use people's e-mail addresses for 'competition management, customer relations and information communications' which could include almost any marketing material.
If this is not the case and I am mistaken, could you please elaborate as to how the site works - none of us believe that you will be giving away money for nothing, and as there is no advertising on the site, it can't be monetised in that way, so I am sure you can understand people's reluctance to sign up without knowing the 'catch' as it were?0 -
Hi RadoJo,
Thanks for replying!
First of all, we are NOT Myriad Marketing (thanks for informing us of their existence though!).
Our business, Myriad, is a new enterprise only recently founded in order to provide an overall business structure for several websites we intend to launch in the future - the first of which is Guessapicture.com. Myriad itself does not have a website at all.
You're absolutely right - at some point in the near future we will be using on-site advertising to provide revenue, but as we only launched four days ago, we haven't got to that point yet. We simply wanted to launch the site first, see if people like it, and generate some interest.
There is no catch - as it says in our earlier post, we will never sell or otherwise divulge your email address to any third party, and we will only use it for the confirmation and other emails to you that I described. And of course, you can use the 'remove' link in each email to completely remove yourself from our database.
I hope I've been some help, but if you or anyone else has any further questions please do respond.
Many thanks,

Thanks for the response Guessapicture, although ever the sceptic me. I wish you well if you're genuine and hope that the site takes off.
However, your site is driving me absolutely nuts, and I cannot think of any more ways of wording the answer you're looking for!:think:A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
Hi Belnahua,
Thanks for the feedback.
We are genuine - I know it must seem strange that we don't have any revenue at the moment, but we want to generate some traffic before we look for an on-site advertising deal (a lot of traffic might mean a better deal, whereas no traffic would limit our choices).
In the meantime we are quite prepared to give away cash prizes - if someone gets the answer correct (to our judges' standards). We confess, the competition is difficult, but we have had some answers very close to the description we require, so don't give up hope!
If anyone has any further questions or comments please do reply.
Many thanks,
