AVG Free version

Hi there

Sorry to start yet another AVG thread. I did add to someone else's thread but no response.

For a couple of weeks AVG will not let me set a scheduled scan or regular updates. Not a problem when I changed to Version 8 when it came out. Automatically updated and ran a scan every day starting at 8 am or whenever computer switched on.

Have uninstalled and download and installed again and still no luck. Only thing I can think of is that this seemed to start once I downloaded Windows updates. OS is XP.

Any help would be gratefully received.

    What firewall do you use?
Id hazard a guess the firewall is blocking it.
It IS quite possible that a windows update has made a mess of things though.
If you cant suss it out then try AVIRA or AVAST anti virus software instead :)

Hi I am almost sure I am using the Windows Firewall. Should I disable. I did try Avast but did have trouble with it.

    Thanks for your reply.

    hmmmmm

It wouldnt stop you running a scan.

    download HIJACK THIS
    http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

SCAN and POST THE LOG (Split into sections if need be)
*** DO NOT terminate anything with it yet

but sure, disable it and try to UPDATE AVG. If it does then theres something set wrong with it

I have used AVG for years and never had a problem so reluctant to change.

EVERY day is excessive to say the least
And its simply shortening your hard drive life!
Once a week is fine, though unless you believe you have a nasty ~ id say once a month is fine!

  • Do you have problems visiting other anti virus sites

    for example;

    http://www.kaspersky.com/
    or
    http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp
