Hi there
Sorry to start yet another AVG thread. I did add to someone else's thread but no response.
For a couple of weeks AVG will not let me set a scheduled scan or regular updates. Not a problem when I changed to Version 8 when it came out. Automatically updated and ran a scan every day starting at 8 am or whenever computer switched on.
Have uninstalled and download and installed again and still no luck. Only thing I can think of is that this seemed to start once I downloaded Windows updates. OS is XP.
Any help would be gratefully received.

What firewall do you use?
Id hazard a guess the firewall is blocking it.
It IS quite possible that a windows update has made a mess of things though.
If you cant suss it out then try AVIRA or AVAST anti virus software instead

Hi I am almost sure I am using the Windows Firewall. Should I disable. I did try Avast but did have trouble with it.
Thanks for your reply.

hmmmmm
It wouldnt stop you running a scan.
download HIJACK THIS
http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html
SCAN and POST THE LOG (Split into sections if need be)
*** DO NOT terminate anything with it yet
but sure, disable it and try to UPDATE AVG. If it does then theres something set wrong with it:idea:0 -
I have used AVG for years and never had a problem so reluctant to change.

Hmm don't think soIm ALL ears if you know of a better free one?
And AVIRA has been tested to beat ALL other known anti virus packages that I know of, so how is THAT bad!
Plus the OP asked about AVG and as per anyone on this forum your like "ZOMG UZE DIS INSTEAD OF THAT" the OP wants to use AVG which happens to be one of the best, if you can't help don't recommend leave the thread

EVERY day is excessive to say the least
And its simply shortening your hard drive life!
Once a week is fine, though unless you believe you have a nasty ~ id say once a month is fine!:idea:0 -
Do you have problems visiting other anti virus sites
for example;
http://www.kaspersky.com/
or
http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp0
