Landline/Broadband packages

Options
Hi all you moneysavers

I am currently with TalkTalk for my landline and Tiscali for my Broadband.
TalkTalk frequently offer me "Free" superfast broadband, when I check I can't get it because my telephone exchange has not been unbundled.
After having a lengthy, heated and as ever, pointless debate this evening with one of TalkTalk's telesales team (incidently, they called me) I have come to the conclusion that BT/TalkTalk and I'm sure other providers are selling us short.
Can it possibly be fair that end users the length and breadth of the country can get a much quicker broadband service for much less money!
Surely this is a classic case for trading standards, the girl I spoke to said that BT told TalkTalk which exchanges could be unbundled and that TalkTalk concentrated on urban areas where the highest volume of customers are, thus the highest potential earnings.
Us poor rural dwellers are at the back of the queue again for a service that the Government has long said everyone should have access to.

Anyway, now that I have got all of that off of my chest, would we have grounds for starting a campaign to highlight the fact that BT and all of the independant providers are basically cherrypicking where they think they will earn most and not working towards providing equal coverage throughout the country??

What do you all think?
I for one am becoming extremely frustrated by this!!

Rodg

I hate to sound like Mr Stocky but that's a free market for you!

Only BT has any universal provision provisos and since everyone wants the cheapest calls there is no longer any opportunity for cross-subsidies (nor are they legal).

And I'm not entirely sure I trust the 'BT told Talk Talk which…' version. Probably more like 'BT explained to Talk Talk how much it would cost and Talk Talk said "No thanks!"'

TalkTalk chose which exchanges they wanted to put equipment in, they simply looked at the number of homes in a given area and concentrated on those with a lot of potential customers.

TalkTalk are known to lie often.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
