its diesel, no throttle body here....work permit granted!0 -
water in the fuel filter
no water/electrolyte in the battery
if it has a preheating system (some direct injection engines don't) an easy way to check if it is causing the problem is this.. boil a kettle, pour the boiling water over the injectors, and try again.. if it starts, voila....
if it had been a Peugeot diesel I'd offer this advice, but don't kbnow if its relevant to other makes... switch off the radio and fan.. turn the key to position 2 ( the one that makes the warning lights come on...) begin listening.. wait for any glow plug light to extinguish... listen carefully, and you wil hear a click from behind the dashboard.... don't try starting the engine until you hear the click, and you'll find it starts a lot easier...0 -
One other thought - As it's your 1st diesel - hope you havent put unleaded in it.............................0

Another thing h'actually is to make sure your fuel guage is working correctly - GM stuff are well known for them saying it has a quater of a tank when actually the thing is empty!!0

I had a similar problem with a Saab (GM). In the morning it took an age of turning over before bursting into life.
The Saab lump also has a glow plug indicator which rarely appears (only when it is around 0 degrees outside temp).
I considered getting new glow plugs, the engine turning over felt fine, no drop off from the starter.
Turned out to be the battery. The poor starting lasted about 3 Months before giving up, new battery fitted, instant fix.0 -
changed the glow plugs it has'nt made a diffrence BUT HA THERE IS A BUT the pre-heater light dose come on now and again and when it dose come on it starts no probs but when it dose not it is a cow to start could it be the relay or some thing dose any one know were the relay is ???0

invest in a haynes manual,it will tell you where everything is. there will be a relay or relay/timer but to know exactly which one it is you will be best of finding a haynes manual, even try your library to borrow one or get one from ebay....work permit granted!0

The relay will be simple to find. Follow the leads from the glow plugs.0
