Orange Livebox fault

I have lost internet access through the Livebox and despite 3 calls to the orange tech support am still no further forward. They keep saying they will test the line and text me but they never do. I was wondering if anyone knew whether I should try connecting using the Speedtouch modem that I had previously?
Also is it just a coincidence that several weeks ago our phone lines and those of our neighbours were down for several days as BT were doing some sort of maintenance/upgrade?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
