diesel car service

hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but....

i have a 2001 peugeot 205 diesel. i had it serviced last November, and i've probably done 3000 miles at the very most (probably nearer 2500) and i just wondered do i need a service every year, or does it go on how many miles you've done? its got 98000 on the clock, and touch wood, i've never had any problems with it ( i've had it about 12 months now)

thought i'd ask on here, cos when i tried to ring a couple of garages, they said "yes" to a service every 12 months, and i was sceptical that they only said that to get the business!

An average service schedule is every year or 10,000miles, which ever comes 1st. But some cars are 12,000 or even 20,000 on the longlife service interval. I would suggest yours at 7yrs old is on annual service intervals though.

It will be due next month.

Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

An average of about 7miles a day. Walkable, but depends on the weather ;)

Yes you should get it serviced, doing short journeys is hard on the engine so you want the oil changed, and everything checked over. Also is the MOT due?

MOT usually gets done at sale, so if you bought it Nov last year that should be due too...you can get it tested up to a month before due, so may be worth getting it done now and seeing what's needed?

I usually get my MOT and service done at the same time. I think the MOT covers a lot of the things in the service anyway, so it would work out cheaper in theory.

Absolutely nothing done on a service is checked on an MOT...

When i take my car for a service i expect them to check everything over, bulbs, suspension, cv joints, brake wear signs of rust etc and report anything that needs doing back to me

I do this myself however they can often spot things i can miss, if they found a split cv joint and repaired it before the MOT this will save hastle and time surely

Granted, most garages with check the car over as a courtesy, and more than likely to see if there's any other work they can get done while you are there ;) but nothing from the actual service is anything to do the MOT.
