Hello I have about £15 of debt would it be best to get settlement figures and get a consolidation loan as is taking ages to pay of at moment.

H I have two things that I could do with a little advice on -
1. I have joint debts with my ex, how do we deal with these if I enter into a DMP ??
2. I am locked into a 3 yr deal with my mortgage company but after this would be willing to move to free up some money to pay debts, my mortgage is portable but what happens when I move , presumably I will be credit checked again and my score will be bad because of the DMP?
even though i have a portable mortgage could they refuse my it against a new property because of a bad credit check?
thanks0 -
Hi, Hopefully my OH will call cccs today to get the ball rolling with a dmp. One thing I am wondering: He has opened new account with Halifax to get wages paid into. Old a/c with Barclays has overdraft and also a newish Barclayloan is paid by d/d each month.
When he cancels all his d/ds can he cancel this one too? Will Barclays continue to take the monthly payment out of his account when he is on a dmp so adding to the debt? He is thinking of saying that he is cancelling all the d/ds as his wife is taking over paying the bills from her account, but I think they may not allow him to cancel the Barclayloan one.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
Hi - I have been reading some of the posts here with great interest and am so impressed by the wonderful advice and support you can get. It does certainly make you feel as if you're not alone.
I've finally taken the first step and have contacted the CCCS to try and sort out my debt. The ridiculous thing is that my earnings are pretty good, but sadly in my stupidity I have taken on a number of payday loans which means my repayments are spiralling out of control. If it weren't for these then I would be in a very good position to pay off the rest of my debt. I realise what an idiot I've been but simply became victim of the domino effect - take one out, run into trouble so take another, then another, until suddenly you can't afford the repayments at all and you're not even making a tiny dent in the original debt!
So my question is...is there any way of doing a DMP with just certain debts? This would then free up my money to pay my usual creditors more than I am currently paying. I do realise, however, that this is probably impossible and that I will no doubt have to include everything?
Another question. I have some arrangements in place with some of my creditors that I set up over the last couple of months when I realised that the situation was getting out of hand. Will this cause a problem with getting a new plan in place now?
Also - I really really want to avoid bankruptcy (I'm a company director so it would seriously impact my job) and really for that same reason an IVA. Can anyone give me any advice on the chances of creditors accepting a DMP. I've worked out (by doing a % pro-rata of each individual debt against my total debt - although will let the CCCS help me further with this later in the month when I have my appointment with them) that in fact - apart from the payday loans people my offer to most of them is going to be pretty much what the current payments are (and in fact in some cases could be even higher!!).
Does anyone have any advice on dealing with these payday loans people? If they don't accept a DMP what next????
I know I've got millions more questions to ask, but my head is still reeling from all of this so I think that will do for now! I would be extremely grateful for any advice and help as my head feels ready to burst right now!
Thank you all very much.

The DMP sounded the best for me as I have negotiated with some of my creditors for a lower payment and could probably some months afford to pay more as I do shifts and may get extra money some months and would like to pay more money off my debits.
will the companies try to do ccj straight away.
what if they refuse and I continue to pay the reduce payment I am paying now.CCCS_Amanda wrote: »Hi KATTY,

I am so gutted, was going to do a Debt Relief Order, but just found out that my pension that I started in Jan, is worth £345!!!! I honestly am so upset I don't know what to do with myself.....I just spoke to Barclays on the phone who are SO NASTY it's unbelievable:mad:, and will no accept my payments to them to pay off overdraft, despite me telling them my very difficult and personal circumstances
Would it be considered fraud to cash in my pension, throw it at my debts and then apply for a DRO? I only started my pension to try and better myself:mad:
Hi want2bfree84 and thank you for your message
Sorry to hear that your DRO was cancelled due to your pension.
I think it is unlikely that you would be able to cash in your pension. If you wanted to stop it, it would normally be preserved until your retirement date.
If it was possible to cash it in, then could you consider bankruptcy as an option and use the money towards the bankruptcy fee?
Without knowing your full financial details, I am unable to give you advice on your options.
If you would like an appointment to look at other options for your situation, you could ring for an appointment.
If you would like to talk to a debt counsellor about your situation, you can book a telephone based appointment by calling our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

If you have joint debts, and you are making reduced payments on a DMP,then they will pursue your ex for any remaining amount.
This is because you are both joint and severally liable for the debts.
I cannot say whether your application for a mortgage would be affected as each mortgage lender has their own criteria when offering loans.
Because of the current financial climate, a lot of lenders are tightening up on the amount of loans they offer.
However, if you have a portable mortgage and you are up to date with no arrears on your mortgage, then there should not be a problem transferring it to your new property.
I suggest you contact your lender nearer the time to discuss this further.

Hi JoJoB and thank you for your message
He needs to cancel all his D.Ds for his non priority debts, and change all his priority D.Ds over to his new account.
Barclays may refuse to cancel the loan payment initially.
If he has opened a new account and is having his salary paid into the new account and nothing is being paid into the old Barclays account, then they may add the monthly loan payment to the outstanding overdraft.
If a DMP is offered as an option at his appointment, the outstanding overdraft will be added to the plan and an offer of payment will be made to Barclays.
All this will be discussed with your OH at the appointment.

Hi Londonfraggle
If you were looking to show preferential treatment to particular creditors we unfortunately be unable to offer a DMP, you would have to approach your creditors yourself and make payments direct. We look to treat all creditors fairly and spread the available surplus across all of them.
If a DMP is an option we would make offers to your creditors and send them a copy of the budget, list of creditors and a letter with and offer of payment. Hopefully the creditors will accept the offers as you are showing willing by getting advice, and as long as the figures in your budget are reasonable they should be willing to help. No creditor can make you pay money that you do not have at the end of the day, so this would hopefully be enough for them to accept the offers.
If a creditor does not accept the offers of payment such as pay day loans, they could possibly add on further charges, place a default notice for the debt on your credit file, and pass your debt to a collections company. If this is the case the collections company can be more likely to accept the offer of payment on a plan. Regardless if they accept the DMP your money will still be sent to gradually reduce the balance.
When you have your appointment with one of our Counsellors they will go through everything in a lot more detail.
