Hi all, well I'm also thinking about ordering from Landy - but can I ask if anybody thinks it is wrong to get married wearing a dark red dress? I really, really don't suit white or gold and quite fancy a colour. Red suits me, as does a sort of green/blue - but Landy don't offer that sort of colour! Just interested to see what people think...

Many Ian Stewart gowns are slightly pink or silver etc. Why can't landy make something in a colour? They do bridesmaids in colours.

Landy do a dark red that I like, but the green/blue shade I would really like isn't in their samples booklet. So I'm wondering whether it would be much more expensive to source somebody here to make a dress for me?

I did a comparison between the two dresses, for the people who are interested. There is a good reason why designer dresses cost so much more than copies made in china.

disclaimer: please note that below is just my comparison, i am not trying to put people off ordering dresses from china , or make people feel inferior for ordering from china, etc etc...

Putting my original and landy copy side by side....i can tell that:
    1. the satin used by landy is a different type, which is much lighter and creases more easily. the original dress is like 3 times heavier than the landy one.
    2. The original MS dress has got great boning..but landys dress lacks this. The boning is not so good and i will need to buy a corset, as I dont think its easy to add extra boning to the dress.
    3. the lace in the original dress is very 'full, beautiful and intricate ....landy's lace not so 'full' - a lotof the lace areas is plain tulle..(if you get what i mean).
    4. the original dress is more sparkly, as it uses a different type of beads, and there are more beads on the original dress because there is more lace to sew the beads onto.

And yes, it does feel different wearing the original dress, as compared to wearing the landy copy. I can definitely feel that the original dress offers more support because of the boning, and that the overall look of the dress is different from the landy copy.

Having said this,...i love my landy dress as its got all the extra bits ( sleeves, shawl, matching jacket) i wanted and its the correct length. :)

These are the some of the reasons i ordered from landy, im getting married at the end of August, and didn't want the dress to be to heavy and hot. I am thrilled with my dress, it feels so nice and light and doesn't weight me down.
Im not to fussed on a lot of lace etc, so the beading and lacing on my dress is just what i wanted.
I have bought a petticoat now and the dress hangs beautifully now, and doesn't even need taking up:)

My dress was from Landy and was really heavy - I would have hated to think how heavy the original might have been!! I would have melted away in the heat lol

Hi Linda, it is something like this colour - I have a suit in this fabric and I love it - sort of aqua blue?

And this is the colour you want a wedding gown in? Super. Have you looked at styles?

Yes Linda I think that is the colour I'm after and style wise so far I favour something simple like this one, but the BhS one is designed for someone much, much taller than me!

Very nice! I've made something similar with a fishtail in purple for my daughter. (13) She has a "Red Carpet" party on Saturday so needed something glam. Please excuse my bluntness, but wouldn't you want to have something (style wise) a little more bridal if you are going for colour to show off the fact you are a bride? You could make the skirt, from just below the hip, a little fuller, then with some lace edged tulle underneath? Elegant and sassy all in one hit. Team that with a beautiful ivory posy or spray of trumpet lilies. Elegance and sassy all in one hit! xx
