    Hi Nicky.
It is all to do with the fabric quality and what you expect.
I have seen some dresses (i'm a dressmaker) that I personally have thought were shocking, but there have been others I have actually been very impressed by. I'm talking about how they look and this doesn't involve the construction. I have been left a debenhams bridesmaid dress to copy the style and I know the client paid £120 for it. Now, to me, the dress is shocking because of the low budget fabric that has been used.

The best thing I could advise is to order samples. This way you have them in your hand and can feel the quality. There are many on line fabric places that send out samples free. www.fabricland.co.uk is one. http://www.harrington-fabric-and-lace.co.uk/ one of my suppliers is another. problem is unless you know what you are looking at it may all seem like gobble-de-goup. Satin comes in acetate, liquid, duchess, light duchess etc. taffeta can be very thin lining quality or lovely and thick.

If there is a specific dress you have in mind, ask what fabrics they are using. Pm me and I can tell you what samples to order for comparison.

hello sorry to ask this girls ive spend hours on the site looking for dresses and im getting closer to make a decision but i wanted to ask without offending anyone when you receive a dress from them they dont look cheap do they this isnt meant to offend anyone but im worried that if it comes it might look cheap and i would hate that can anyone help??

It all depends on what sort of dress you buy I guess. One of my guests said how much she loved my dress and her EXACT words were 'I bet you didn't get much change from a grand'

I told her how much I had paid and I swear, I have never seen anyone so gobsmacked in my life.

I guess professional dressmakers will have different thoughts, but none of my guests were dressmakers so they wouldn't have known anyway ;) Incidenatally, I did take the dress to a dressmaker to get the hem taken up a bit, and she was really impressed with it.
