I don't have a problem with people buying from Landy if that is what they wish to do.

But I don't like it when they mock wedding boutiques prices, because in my opinion, they are a contributing factor to the higher prices for the reasons mentioned above!
I have not mocked anyone I am sorry if you have taken this the wrong way if you look at what I said ,

Kind of connected. There was an article in The Sunday post about a bride who had ordered a dress for £1000 from a bridal shop. The dress company mistakenly sent the dress invoice to the bride not the shop. The invoice was £250, that is quite a mark up!!!. I would love to hear from someone who runs a bridal shop how much a dress costs them & how much they sell it on for.
I just would love a bridal shop owner to come on here & let us know how much they pay for the dresses out of interest.
I know there are bridal shops going out of business all the time & thats terrible nothing beats the kind of personal service you can get in a GOOD shop. But equally there are horror stories of snooty sales assistants treating people like dirt & expecting people to hand over a grand for the privilege.
I'm getting a milly dress partly because I couldn't afford another 1 but also because I could not face the humiliation of the treatment I would recieve from some sales assistants as a plus size bride, I had a very small taste of that, that was more than enough.
    Booo!!!

Hi Violetta. I used to work for pronuptia but can't tell you what the mark up was, but have a good guess it was substantial.
What I can say is the price of gowns especially designer ones, involve the "reputation" costs. Eg, with a Vera Wang, you pay for the name. Doesn't mean it's constructed any differently to another.
Pure silk isn't expensive. Apart from some Duchess satins.
For example Ivory silk chiffon is as little as £3.80m, Silk crepe-de-chine is £6.95m, silk dupion £8.20 and a crepe-back satin is £13.50.
So, one of these lovely slinky numbers http://www.onewedding.co.uk/wedding-dress/amanda-wakeley/aw087/
in 100% silk could cost as little as £100 in fabric and then a making fee depending on dressmaker. I've quoted for a beach wedding in silk chiffon £450. A Jenny Packham could come in at over £1,000! You pay for the label on many counts.

A "full meringue" with built in petticoat in 100% pure silk could cost as little as £600. Again something like http://www.onewedding.co.uk/wedding-dress/alan-hannah/acapulco/ or http://www.onewedding.co.uk/wedding-dress/augusta-jones/agj-julieen/you will pay for the name and the priveledge of wearing the gown. depends how particular you are on a "name"

    Helping failing economy? LOL
Bought Johnsons Baby Powder.... Made in China
    Kettle? Made in Chine
    Iron? Made in China
    Bosch drill? Made in China

There you go for helping economy, most big brands have their stuff made in China, because labour, rent, etc is so much cheaper. They just charge different price n different countries for the same products to fit the pocket of the buyers.

And hey, Violetta, Im totally with on on the snobby shop assistants issue!!!

Hi folks, did I read on here before that there is somewhere in the UK that you can try on these wedding dresses, maybe not for Landy but for one of the other China producers? If anyone can help me would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Val,

I gave Landy all my measurements on 28th April - but understood it was going to take longer than the norm as there's a lot of beading / embellishments on my dress. My daughters info was given at the same time for her dress.
They emailed a week or so ago to say it was going to take an extra 10-12 days, and I emailed back to say there was no hurry.

    Hope this helps?
