Hi all - I've been following this thread for a while now (particularly happy to have seen Chardonnay with the same dress I like in the same colour!). I'm not getting married until May 2011 and have a dress for the evening reception which will also serve as a backup for if the Landy dress doesn't look or fit right.
My question is can you order a standard size dress but with a custom length i.e. a size 12 but with a length of 58 inches instead of 60 for example... I'm petrified of getting my measurements wrong - there's just so many to give!Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -

OMG I was just coming in to ask that!!!!!! I'm also getting married May 2011 down in Devon......
I'm a long time lurker and just got engaged a few weeks back..... I'm so excited and love reading about all your lovely dresses.....
I think I'm definately going to go for a landy, although I have to admit to being a little scaredfigured if I went for a standard size, with a lace up back just a bit shorter (am only 5"2) this would be a safe bet.....

Taken from my blog regarding lacing.
Many of these gowns have a lace up back closure, but there is an optimum lacing position so the dress fits snuggly under the arm and shows just the right amount of lacing. What many brides think, especially those who have their gowns made in China, is if a gown is a fraction too big the lacing can be pulled tighter for a better fit. This can result in puckers, wrinkles and sometimes the dreaded back fat spilling over the back of the gown. The fact is, the gown should still have the relevent alterations to the sides or bust to keep the back lacing in proportion.

How easy is it to get a dress altered? I have seen a really lovely dress but plan to loose about 2 stone before my wedding date. I am to order a dress a size smaller than I am currently - my weight is on the lower part of my body really - my boobs have been the same size for some years lol just the belly has expanded after childbirth. I was hoping to get a laced back version but seeing your post I don't know now! There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age0 -
Hey littlemadam
Woohooo! Mine's on its way too! Been checking lots too, and at the mo its still in East China - did you see that you can get email/text alerts at each stage? Perfect!
I'm getting the fear now, and just praying its going to be just like my Maggie! xxx0 -

Hi Shelly. Alterations are relatively easy, however 2 stone is a big amount of weight to lose. (well done you)
Problem with "planning to lose" is sometimes the best laid plans go to waste. I certainly wouldn't recommend ordering something smaller. I always recommend buying or having something made to your current figure just in case the weight doesn't come off. But, in saying that, if one of my clients was planning to lose weight, I would hold off until the last possible moment and then adjust.
Another thing to remember with weight loss is the style which suits you now or rather doesn't (something you would avoid with a barge pole) may actually suit your figure once the weight was off.
This doesn't help I know but never order something smaller "in case"
