This is why a good money saver, always checks a reciept!

I was in Tescos today doing some shopping, watching the pennies as always, when i got a bit of a shock. On my way out of the store, i was checking my receipt, as usual, making sure any offers had been honoured at the till, when i noticed something for £3. Now i never spend more then £1 on anything, if i can help it, so something for £3 really stuck out to me. It said Lead Set, and i knew that I didnt have anything in the trolley that fitted that description.

When i got to customer service, the women said, someone else had been to her with the same thing! Very strange i thought, but when i explained i had no idea what it could be, she told me that it was one of their lines, that isnt available on the shelf yet, so she gave me back my £3. She then explained it by saying the person on the till probably had a barcode stuck on thier sleve, that they didnt know about. I am thinking, hurm a little dodgy.

Just thought i would remind u all to always check your receipt! You never know what barcodes the staff might be wearing.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

You should always check recepits, they why they issue them. Along with bank/credit card/store card statements etc etc, they dont issue them for fun! !

Similar happened to me in Farmfoods the other week. I bought 4 Bernard Matthew turkey joints, 2 leg and 2 breast joints. Breast joints are £1 more expensive than leg, yet the cashier just took one of the joints, rubbed the barcode and multiplied by 4, charging £2 too much.

She did refund the overcharge but it definitely pays to check.
  • I also wouldn't be surprised if the cash registers added up the total wrongly too sometimes.

I think you should have (not should of) been given £6 back under the Double the Difference policy...

Well i did think that, but because i was charged for something i didnt buy, rather then over charged for something i did, i didnt think the policy would apply.

I agree with the bank statement thing too. If you dont check, then you obvioulsy have lots of spare money, in which case you can give it to me! hehehe

i totally agree you always should check
but sometimes you just don't have the energy.

i got caught out today and paid full price for a short dated reduced item. ordinarily i would have checked but i was dead tired and the checker was useless and had just made a different mistake he was too busy apologising for...

so this time i will have to just chalk it up as a lesson. but it takes concentration, effort (and memory) and sometimes people may just not be up to it.
