  • :D 2 part-baked Baguettes or pack of 6 rolls at 39p is excellent value. Lovely fresh bread every day just minutes in a hot oven. Frozen fruit- fruits of the forest, strawberries or tropical mix is delicious and very reasonable. and all the pasta sauces are very nice. All in all better quality than Lidls. Be early for the "specials" - queues start pretty early.

I do a monthly shop at Aldi Dagenham. It takes 30mins to get there but the savings I make more than make up for it. I have been disappointed with some products and the special offers but through trial and error have found the products the family like. In general the prices are the same as the economy brands but the quality is more like supermarket own brand or better. Value for money is super.
I buy; fruit & veg, pasta, beans, washing powder & dishwash, shampoo (the Pantene one) blackcurrant squash (tastes like Ribena) Ketchup, pizza, smoked salmon, cheese, milk, cream, eggs, pies & pasties, ham & bacon & bagettes. The yoghurts are generally good and I buy mince pies this time of year. Everything else I buy at Waitrose or Sainsbury's. Some things are awful but I make the time to visit regularly as I save so much money. I think it's brilliant.

  • I find Netto is cheaper?
  • IMHO,
Generally ( though depends on age and location of store),

    Lidl is an up-market Netto

    Aldi is an up-market Lidl.

and all have reasonable and cheap food, together with price leading non-food offers, (which tend to repeat every six months, electrical items are usually cheaper and better equipped next time round 8) ) Aldi is most up to date on technology.

  • Aldi frozen chicken nuggets are the best Ive tasted.

They take debit cards, but not electron.
  • Aldi...

    bad things - -
generally in poor areas and car park safety is a concern.
fruit and veg is rubish quality.
bread and pancakes are poor quality.
    cheese is very poor.

Sorry but I'd have to disagree. I regularily go to the 2 near me and have no problems with the car parking. I've been to the one's in Carlisle, Spalding and Wisbech and have had no problems with them either.

We buy nearly all of our fruit and veg from Aldi and Lidl. It is always good quality, but there is very little left if you go on a Saturday or a Sunday as they only have deliveries Monday to Friday. If you find the fruit and veg is of poor quality, you need to speak to the store manager. That is more down to storage and handling (we've all seen the 17 year old tipping the box of tomatoes in on top of the other tomatoes, or bananas, or apples, etc.).

The cheese is excellent from cheddar to the speciality cheese.

The bread is also excellent, delivered daily. We usually have their gold granary, my Mum has their white. We also have their brioche (plain and chocolate), pancakes, croissants and buns. The part baked baguettes are excellent too.

    We also buy their:-

    nappies,
    cat biscuits age 7+
high juice squash - all types
small cartons of juice - all types
most of their biscuits and cakes
    muesli (like original Alpen)
    fresh pizzas
    all types of their yogurts
    cuts of ham
    sliced beef
    steak
    sausages
    stout
    mineral water with fruit juice
    all cleaning and washing products
all food, bin and rubble bags

We have tried most things and everything has been good to excellent. I can't think of anything we've bought that we didn't like.

Like a previous post said, Aldi is a bit more upmarket than Lidl (can't compare with Netto as we don't have one anywhere near).

It doesn't have handbaskets, which I know is a problem if you are on foot with a pushchair. But it does have trolleys for wheelchair users and those with a special seat for a small child - both of which Lidl doesn't have.

They have a 12 month no quibble guarantee. Which really is no quibble, there is no calling the Manager, just dealt with at the till no problems.

They don't take credit cards, but do take debit cards and of course cash. They also offer cashback now.

My biggest moans are lack of staff, so you occasionally have to queue longer than seems appropriate. There is also no-one to ask any questions of. Although this seems to be more of a problem in Lidl's - don't pop in during your lunch hour!

They also don't list any phone numbers or e-mail addresses for either the shops or head office. They say this is because they believe in one-to-one customer service and tell you to speak to the Manager in-store (or words to that effect) - not so easy when the nearest Aldi was 20 miles away until recently.

We buy most of the obvious things like beans, tinned toms etc. some of the more intresting things we like( good quality) are the stollen, italian ham, frikadellan burgers- yummy in pitta bread, pizza from the fridge is really nice, chocolte pillow cereal, cashew nuts, tinned peaches and chocolate chip brioche(warm it up).
I love Aldi, I wish they had an online service as it's about 20 miles from us.
  • I went for a job at Aldi a little while back. Apparently they only ever have 3 staff in a shop (including the manager!) So if you are waiting that's why! You have 20 minutes to unload a pallet, have to get things through the till super fast, and if you are not fast enough you get sacked! Decided that I didn't need that pressure!
I still shop there though, I like the products and prices!
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T

The "Oscars" alcohol is good too. The peach schnapps is £4.99 and very good, certainly a good alternative to Archers. The Oscars Dark in a Tia Maria style bottle is excellent but more towwards the Kahlua taste.

The 3 packs of 250ml pure fruit juice are the best we've had, the kids really like the pineapple and at 59p its also the cheapest!

The Chicken curry rice is great also, but not very hot. Both kids like it

Also the refund policy on goods is great. We had a pair of walkie talkies fail after 10 months and they refunded with no arguments. I would trust there electrical goods more than the likes of Dixons
