See B&B product changes on eMoneyfacts https://www.emoneyfacts.co.uk/news/savings-news.aspx?newsarticleid=176601May I ask how you know this?0 -
Or there is the Yorkshire Building Society e-bond 6.5% fixed until 31 January 2010

Can be opened and funded immediately, by debit card, if they can verify your identity online.

I was just looking at this as i missed both the northern rock and Nationwide fixed rate bonds when they had decent rates.
Does anyone know if YBS are in a good position? In Progress!!!0 -

Probably one of the safer Building Societies.

I have just today opened a second e-bond with them but don't take that as a recommendation as I had fixed term savings with icesave and Kaupthing Edge.

May I ask how you know this? More importantly, how can I get my money in in time?! Think I'll head for the local branch tomorrow.
I went into my local branch on Saturday and they informed me. You should be OK if you open the bond no later than this Wednesday according to what they told me.0 -
Thanks Sapphire, I'll head in tomorrow and open it with a cheque rather than messing around with DD transfers. Hopefully that'll allow me to sneak in under the rope.0

Hi
Thanks for the 'heads up' re the upcoming withdrawal of the B&B 1 year bond; I visited my local branch this morning and opened one up, staff confirmed that it closes on Wednesday. Other fixed rate bonds seem to be disappearing rapidly and, imho, interest rates are headed quickly lower - the BoE have nothing to lose now and lower interest rates will help the banks (which we all now partly own!) so I think its 2% here we come....

If this analyst is correct surely it must be prudent to take high fixed rate terms now, he's predicting the base rate to drop to 2% or less!

I'm moving money out of ING (ex Kaupthing) and into ICICI's bonds as it has full UK FSCS protection. Whereas ING has the Dutch scheme and I'm not feeling assured about ING recieving emergency funding!0
