Painting MDF?

I have just bought a playtable for my sons off ebay, made out of MDF.

Can you just paint it using emulsion? I wanted it to match the colours in their bedroom but I dont want to make a mess of it.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes you don't need to do anything to "prep" MDF prior to painting

I would personally prime it first, but then I always go about things the long way!

If you want a more washable finish something like eggshell, over primer, might be better. But if you take your colours to a paint mixing place, they will be able to do an exact match to the colours you already have.
