  • can someone help me please?? i had an annual ticket with a rail company and cashed it in early, i was informed i would get my refund of over £2000 within 28 days. 48 days later and 3 complaint letters written I have only just been refunded, is there a regulated company I can take this complaint to??

    You could try Passenger Focus.

    hi
I booked an advanced ticket to travel and found out the train was cancelled due to weather condition, and I could not travel.
Am I entitled to refund even if the ticket conditions on advance ticket says non refundable?

It depends on the policy of the Train Company that you were meant to travel with. If it was East Coast then they will give a full refund.

If your unsure what Train Company your travelling with, it will say on your Advance ticket ie; VWC&Conns, East Coast&Conns or ATW&Conns then 'google' the Train Company, on their website it will give their Severe Weather policy and how to claim a refund.

If still unsure post you ticket details, I'm sure someone on the forum will get you the correct address.

That sounds reassuring. It was east rail from hull to manchester run by northern rail.
I have written to the trainline to initiate a refund.will see what happens.

Hi drpachu, I'm a bit confused, but let's start with the important thing first. Please don't post that letter with your tickets to the trainline, their customer services is pathetic and if you do get a refund from them it will take weeks.

Next you say East rail and Northern Rail, what does it say on the ticket under route, I think it might be 'AP TPE & Connect' or 'Transpennine Trains Only' for that route.

If I'm correct then fill out this Compensation form and post it to Transpennine Express.

If I'm wrong and sometimes I am, then please post back.

  • If your train was cancelled then you should be entitled to refund regardless of your ticket type. If you bought your tickets from the trainline, then send your refund application to them, but copy your tickets first for your own records and keep the receipt if you are not confident of their customer services.

If you take the tickets anywhere else for refund ie a ticket office then they will only forward the tickets on to the trainline anyway which will delay the process.
Sometimes I feel like a pelican. Whichever way I turn, I've still got an enormous bill in front of me.

East rail????? There isn't a company called East Rail.

Hull-Manchester direct would be Transpennine Express

For future reference and to save your self money (and for ease of refund in these circumstances) DO NOT USE TRAINLINE, use a TOC website like eastcoast.co.uk or many other TOCs or you could visit your local station.
Trainline charge fees for booking/paying/delivering for tickets, TOC websites are usually free to use as is the station.
