Theres a New virus doing the rounds call XP Professional spyware 2009, or along those lines. It infected my pc and puts a red cross in a circle next to or near your clock bottom right of screen. Every now and then an official looking message will appear on your screen stating your pc is infected and when you run the scan on the link it provides it suggests you have a multitude of spyware problems then offers a removal service for.you've got it a Fee !
Apparently Microsoft are on the case, this has taken me ages to remove from my laptop and to be honest i'm not sure if it has completely gone.
It only emerged in september 2008.
Beware !!!!!!!!!!!!

I just spent an hour or so removing it from a relatives pc (logmein is great for long distance support).
The clever thing about this virus is that it disables use of your other antivirus products. Anyway after a bit of jiggery-pokery I got Malwarebytes installed and ran that. It cleaned it up a treat.Waddle you do eh?0 -
Where did you get it from did it come in an email or were you looking at a specific web site?0

kinda curious about this as well...:santa2:0 -
This had been around for a little while, it is almost the same as XP antivirus 2008.
You usually get from a (false) popup warning on a webpage, that says you have a problem, and to click it to fix it. What it does is download itself and causes the infection.
Malwarebytes should be able to remove it
Go Here for information and download

There is also a link down the page to malwarebytes program software to remove it, here it is direct.

It's a regular on the techie forum, Malwarebytes usually sorts it.
Whilst Googling for a circuit diagram, I clicked on a link and had a popup about Antivir64.
I believe this is related to XP anivirus and is meant to panic you into clicking on it.
DON'T click on it, or even try to close it by clicking on the x, chances are you will install it.
I used ctrl-alt-del and closed Firefox. A scan with Malwarebytes showed a clean PC.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I have been infected today, and if i got to malware, spybot or even microsoft to download a fix, it blocks their websites - v.clever, but also frustrating
Any ideas on what i can do?

There were some websites which showed how to manually remove the antispyware 2009. I'd started to delete them manually and after a few files I was then able to download malwarebytes and then let that clean it out.Waddle you do eh?0

Its taken me over an hour of trying different fixes, but i have now beated it!
Managed to download malwarebytes from download.com, and it found the virus on 1st sweep
Not sure how it got in as i have windows defender, avg and spybot all running and regularly updated
If only the clever brains behind the virus could divert their attention to world finance, fuel prices or global warming!!!0
