Hdtv

I'm thinking about buying a new TV (probably in January) and i've been looking in various stores/websites for deals.

There's one thing i'm not sure on though, When are programmes going to be broadcast using HD? I don't see the point of buying an HDTV just now if i'm not going to notice the difference for a while.

Cheers,

HB

the thing with this is that, if your going to buy a new tv, everything will turn into hd tv in about 1 and half years i think, we'll see it widely used.
Now, i can only assume that if your buying a tv now, your not going to change it for a good 5+ years or so.

you mite as well get a HD TV if this is the case, looking at future changes.

    hopw this helps,

    Hi,
From what we have been told,There will be 6 channels on Sky sometime after the new year if you subscribe to the Sky premium package.
Apparently the Sky HDTV boxes will cost around £500-£600 so we were told when looking plus another £10 on subsription charges.
    This put us off..
we were also told that it will take up to 10 years for everything to catch up and then it will all be cheaper.
    Hope this helps a bit

i think 10 years sounds like an overstatement,
Im getting a HD camcorder aswell and really dont think its going to take anywhere near 10 years to kick off.i would still put my bets on 1-2 years for it to start standardising.
We can also look at the price of plasma tv's when they were first introduced, companies were charging near £10k for a 42'' scree, now you can pick one up for around 3k. the prices of HD set top boxes will decrease as this transition from digital to HD takes place.

    Good Luck,
    Skiddy,
  • Just read that the BBC are hoping to broadcast everything in HD by 2010, not sure about Sky/ITV though

Sky is bringing out hd tv boxes next year, so deff worth getting a HDTV, look at: http://hd.sky.com/. Id suggest getting one with a high resolution.

Dell have brought out a few very nice LCD's

Out of interest, am I the only person who is not overwhelmingly impressed by HDTV? I saw a TV with it in Dixons a couple of days ago and couldn't help thinking "so what?". It seems like a lot of money for very little benefit to me.
