Oak kitchen with black plinths

We're thinking of fitting black plinth to our oak kitchen when we get it. We'll be having black (star galaxy, etc) granite worktops and thought the plinths would compliment it. It's quite bold for us to do something out of the ordinary and I'd like some general opinion before we purchase our kitchen. I found this picture kitchentestimonial2.jpg

What do you think?

  • I think it's a really nice touch, minimal yet a good result, tasteful. We are in the process of new kitchen/dining room, I've lost track of kitchen desings i've looked.

Quite like it too, looks like shadows, gives the effect of cabinets floating. Go for it.

That's lovely. The black plinth along with the black work surface frames the floor units nicely.
We have a similar kitchen and went with a black floor instead which was a big mistake as you see every crumb and mark. It's not easy to keep clean.

The picture you've got is in artificial light. It might be worth considering the aspect and natural light in the room. This looks really stylish under the circumstances but I would want to see it in daylight! It is also a very strong personal design statement so if you are considering selling in the next few years, you might want to consider your market when making such an investment.

But, hey, who am I to give an opinion I can't make my mind up on a worktop (see my other posts).

It works well in this picture due to the flooring thye have what floors will you be having?????????????????

a dark floor with dark plinths dosent look to good..but to light a plinth and you will get scuff marks on it...

if you are getting floor as above take a piece with you try it with a black plinth a cupboard colured plinth and also just try using the flooring as a plinth!!

FYI that flooring looks like bamboo(see other thread for my reply to you re flloring!)the plinths look great, good contrast. We have cream units and flooring with black sparkly granite tops, looks great. My advice would be to keep to 2 colours and use an accent colour for a wall and accessories which you canchange as the whim takes you.

The black is a really good idea, to seperate to contrasting woods, this way.

It's all too easy to make them clash, if there isn't any sort of 'break' between them.

i think the plinths look great. however i think the kitchen looks a little "too clean" and lacks homeliness or warmth........perhaps tiles rather than the workstop upstand would give it a bit of depth.
