    There's a Waitrose in Swaffham? That's a bit posh for Norfolk .

Oi! Norfolk is pretty serr-fistikated, thank 'ee. We actually drive 300 miles to get to it. Everything goes well until we come off at, er, Newark on Trent (!!) but thereafter it takes as long to get from there to our destination as it did to reach Newark. I keep hoping they'll open a Waitrose in Deerrrrr-am but so far, not even a sign of one of Edna's sugar beet mountains. Then again, a motorweay from Newark into Norfolk would help even more.

    * Re your point about the Lapland NF organisers' inability to lay their hands on the money. You're right.

I'm assuming the gentlemen-in-blue will have noted the apparent evaporation of £1.5 million, or however much it was that L-NF managed to rake in. . .;)

I know I'm fast becoming a disillusioned 'grumpy old woman' but wouldn't it be nice ,just for once,if common sense prevailed somewhere, and someone had actually realised a large envelope might be required?;) Oh well c'est la vie!

On your way through Newark please feel free to call into our Waitrose, which is the only one in the whole of Nottinghamshire. That will sustain you before you have to face the delights of the A17.

Nah Edna, surely be not a single Bognopper in Faken-arm. Shame on 'ee!

Still. I hadn't realised the new Lapland Norfolk was going to be there. No chance of relocating it eastwards towards, say, Taverrrn-arm? Be roit on moi doorrstep, that'd.

*tris: you've just made my day. A Waitrose in Newark? Fantastique (pretentious, moi?) Right. We'll stick that in the TomTom and poke it, as the saying goes. Thanks!

    **snip**

It also said that I was entitled to claim any extra costs I had incurred because of this, so I thought I'd try to claim the £4.60 I had to pay for a 'special delivery' letter requesting a refund, working on the basis if you don't ask you don't get.
Good thinking but what about your time? When I have had cause to make this sort of claim (mercifully rarely) I always claim for time and have generally been successful even if the amount has been negotiated down. How much you try to claim will depend on what you can realistically show to be income and various other factors, also some cover explicitly excludes loss of earnings, though the wording usually refers to losses incurred by the issue with the transaction *not* the claim.

As you say, if you do not ask you do not get and as long as one is not fraudulent in the claim it will often be settled. As gomer said in relation to other types of claim, it is usually quicker, cheaper and easier for the companies to pay up than fight it.
I know I'm fast becoming a disillusioned 'grumpy old woman' but wouldn't it be nice ,just for once,if common sense prevailed somewhere,

Nothing grumpy about it but where does this notion of 'common sense' come from (not you cynical lady, the world in general). We are not born with this sort of knowledge it can only be learned. We learn it from our parents, our elders and our teachers. In my humble opinion what you are referring to is a lack of education on behalf of those who sent a small (no doubt standard issue) envelope without understanding what they were asking you to submit. This is lack of intelligence which is usually a result of poor education as I have said. Not a personal dig, just an observation.

But Gordon Brown did go to school, Edna.

And as I understand it, the Scottish education system back then was actually pretty darn good.

There must be an explanation other than lack of education to account for why this country is being governed in the way that it is whilst being simultaneously over-run by car-boot sale Laplands and cats-with-antlers.

Ah well that be troo, only today they was forkin them into wagons and I asked farmer Blethridge why they'd been lifted so long and only noe going. e sed he ad to lift em to turn the grownd and put a spring crop in but he cudn'r sell the beet for luv nor money. Then just the uvver day he had a surprise call from an animal feed company, (abroad I fink, I'm shore he said Ulster) and that they have urgen need of animal food, well pigswill to be presise so he was able to shift em before they rotted at avery handsum price thank you very much. So 'e was able to do a bognop without even tryin' lucky geezer.
Then again, a motorweay from Newark into Norfolk would help even more.
Well im not shore about that. see it would have to cross the wash so no-one wiuld come norf cos we don't like washing also, the last bloke who tried anything with the wash got drownded. It were a few year back, like, but it's still teld in these parts. He was a silly old Canute. And then theyrs that bridge thing - no-one like the one over the Humber so what are they going to do with a bridge over the wash. The whole fing will be a wash out ha ha

    well all the best
