My mother-in-law has recieved a phone call from her credit card company to say her card has been stopped 'due to suspicious transactions'. She last used the card to buy £350.00 worth of tickets for Lapland New Forest. It has been used to buy mobile phone credit - she has a contract phone, a plane ticket - she was already of the country on a ship, amongst many other things! So beware people, I am not blaming anyone as that would be really wrong of me!!!!! It's a bit strange though dont you agree???!!!

Hmm that is a bit strange, Im sure that thousands of people used their credit/debit cards online, so one person having problems doesnt necessarially mean its due to the lapland new forest website... That said, it would be my first thought too. It did cross my mind earlier when someone else mentioned something. A poster said that they had tried to pay by CC, but even though she definately entered her details right, she couldnt and had to take a cheque. Some bogus sites will say the details are wrong, whilst they actually record your information for fraudulant use.

However, I think that the Mears and Co arent as technical as credit card fraud, and also the webmaster or designer, who I think we can agree wasnt aware of what was happening, and just making a site unaware of who it was for, would not have been part of it. I think he has distanced himself from the website now as to avoid bad press.
  • Here is my opinion...

whether or not the west midlands event is related
it still is probably best to avoid it for the following reasons....

    1) as far as anyone knows they do not have permission to go ahead
    2) no-one knows what it will look like (pictures on website are disclaimed)
    3) unknown company - not registered + trading address seems suspect
    4) the website does not make it abundantly clear that the activities + food are included in the admission price.
    5) Given the national press coverage given to Lapland New Forest rip off you think that might have gone to at least a little effort to make it clear they weren't associated.

there are plenty of smaller events around the country at local garden centres etc, many of which are free or for charity.

If you want to go ice skating go to a proper ring (that will still be there in a week to complain to if you fall and break your leg). - you can 'skate with santa' at my local rink for less than £5

If you want to make gingerbread men or write a letter to santa you can do that at home.

If you want to go on outdoor flatpack fun fair rides in DECEMBER... you are more crazy than me and go ahead!!!

If you really want the 'Lapland experience', the park in Kent (lapland UK) has a proven track record.

Anyone seen any "fairground" people travelling up the A34/M40 in a hurry.

Looks like they need not go now - it seems set to not open at all

If this was all above board all the dots would be signed and the boxes ticked.

Nothing would please me nore and others if another con has been stopped before it even begins.

Have tickets been sold for this????
    Kind Regards

Today i booked for my children to see FC at the gardencentre. They are laying on loads of things for the children to do, also have fake snow and some animals and grotto and more outside area, even offer breakfast with santa, £22.00 for Four children.

The presents in the past have been great. Children will love it. Lapland would be nice but only the real thing.
    Kind Regards

This quote from the West Midlands 'version' website is priceless

Due to Christmas postal delays all tickets are to be collected at the entrance to Lapland West Midlands on the ticket date only. To gain entry you will need to bring:
    • A printed copy of your Order Confirmation email.
    • Your Unique Booking Number (your PayPal order confirmation number).
    • The credit card you used to book your ticket(s).
    • One form of Booking Address ID - such as a utility bill - please remember this ID on the day!
    Unquote

They can place any conditions they like on access, but why all this elaborate security. I have entered high security locations with half the formality.

If they want your credit card that's enough of a 'no no' and a utility bill or ID - now that is enough to scare the pats off anyone. If it were free I wouldn't enter any site making those demands on me.

On the other forum I work on it's common place for scammers to ask for credit card details for ID purposes - like yeah. :rotfl: Their motives could be innocent, but anyone wanting my ID can have two fingerprints. ;)

I'd go in with two feet but the likelihood is that the Council won't allow it to go ahead with all the bad publicity from the Brighton job, and that alone is enough reason for the Council to defer a decision and then propose that the delay is the fault of the applicants late referral to them.

....... and who on earth will go ? I know some people will not have heard, but that's hardly going to earn the people holding the Festival any money.

I see where you're coming from, but again I doubt it is that elaborate, you have to physically go and see someone with these documents in your hand, I dont think they are going to photocopy everyones documents, or even one persons, just for a bit of identity fraud! I think more likely they are just trying to validate their event, by imposing "security measures" like this it makes people think it might be legitimate. I have seen other events where when you book online and have to collect them you have to prove who you are and that you purchased them, the utility bill is a bit much, but I think they have just cobbled together a website and tried to make it sound posh, without actually standing back and thinking about what they are putting

You could always contact Millride Country Sports and ask them for more details about the Lapland event

    HILL FARM
    BOGNOP ROAD
    ESSINGTON
    WOLVERHAMPTON

It's strange how there isn't a mention of it on their website, yet it's their address that is given as contact on the Lapland West Midland site
