My dd will be 10 months old at xmas and we would love to start some of our own family traditions.
I am going to get her a personalised stocking and hang it on the fireplace.
Does anyone have any other ideas? What are your favourite family traditions?
Thanks in advance.

we had a tradition of getting a special present from our dad (who worked away from home during the year) at Christmas dinner.
We also go to midnight mass together (all 9 of us) and afterwards we have christmas hot chocolate and mince pies while we talk and we get to open one present then.0 -

- family buffet (ie just us and the 3 'kids') on Christmas Eve before going to the Midnight service in chapel
- opening the stockings before breakfast in our room (even though the youngest is now 18) and throwing wrapping paper at each other
- gold chocolate coins in the stockings!
- a 'surprise' under the tree after breakfast. This is getting harder now they are older so last year we bought an inflatable log cabin in a bargain shop & blew it up in the middle room! DD (19) fell asleep in it in the afternoon.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

ever since I was little we had the tradition that while we were eating tea on christmas day, the christmas angel would fly down from the tree and leave everyone a special present and a book, usually something that we could do as a family and the book that we could go up to bed to read. Still do this with my family now.

We used to get brand new pjs on christmas eve plus allowed to open a small present from a relative who lives away (i.e an auntie).
Christmas morning was just our 'santa' presents and presents from aunties and siblings. Not allowed to open mum and dads and nans present until the afternoon as this spread the whole say out
After christmas lunch we got 'cracker' presents. As in the gifts inside crackers were so pants mum used to spend a few quid and buy something nice for us. Hair brush, nice shampoo, small toy etc.
Then once the dishes and tidying up were done we sat down and opened presents from mum and dad and nan

New PJs for christmas eve is our main tradition at home, and new to my kids.
One carried over from my childhood is that the whole family gather on Boxing Day - originally it was at my Grandma's (as it was hers, my mum's and my great gran's wedding anniversaries also), and now it's moved to Mum's. I'll take it on when mum can't do it any more, as I just couldn't imagine Boxing Day doing anything else.
This year we're going to restart the 'stockings in our room' tradition - it was something I did as a child with my parents, but due to OHs health, hasn't been an option in past years for us. But he's doing better now, so hopefully we can start it up again.
