On DLA and will be 60 next year - will I lose DLA?

Hi all,

I'm on DLA and reach my 60th bithday next Feb :o

Had a letter to say 'register for your state pension now', which I've done.

I'm also receiving help with rent and council tax.

Worried! Will I be worse off financially when I get to 60?

Anyone else in the same position?
Jen

No, I was receiving DLA for Mobility and also for care before I was 60 and it makes no difference when you get you pension as DLA allowances are totally separate from your State pension. You will continue to receive DLA as long as you are in need of it

But I'm wondering if I'll lose rent and council tax help?

Hi, yes I am receiving IS (Think it's about £2 odd to top up payments).

Also I had Nat Insurance contributions credited because I was my dad's carer for 8 years

You'll need to check how much state pension you are in line for. Get a forecast here:

    https://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk

There are two state pensions, and if the second one is biggish it can take you over pension credit level.

You will keep your DLA forever, subject to remaining disabled.

People over 65 cannot get it though, for reasons better known to the powers that be.

People over 65 can get Attendance Allowance, which is the same rate as DLA. Carers lose theirs when they retire, it becomes pension! (This is what happenned to Mum & Dad)

AFAIK if they already have it, they also get to keep the mobility component of their DLA on top of the AA, which doesn't include a mobility component.

IF peeps on DLA , either care or mobility they can keep it when over 65(subject to review of course). If it is a claim for 65's & over it is AA which as EDInvester says has no mobility component only care.
