Just spotted one called Homecoming: A Christmas Story (1971) - this apparently inspired the Waltons.
How much more Xmas schmalzy cheesy can you get?

Yes, it does, but who cares....it's christmas!!! Nothing better than snuggling up with a good film, some nibbles and a hot choc. In fact, I think this year I'm going to have a couple of xmas movie nights every week in December. I'm loving this thread! It's reminded me of so many xmas films I'd forgotten about.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Ooh, just saw this thread and had to contribute. We Americans take our Christmas movies very seriously, and I've had to import a fair few DVDs across the pond!
My personal preference is for the old classics:
White Christmas - cheesy but loads of great songs, and it stars Bing Crosby and the lovely Rosemary Clooney! This is my definitive Christmas movie. It's not Christmas without it.
Holiday Inn - Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Very similar to White Christmas, and it's a bit slow in places, but the Christmas scenes are great.
Christmas in Connecticut - This was my grandmother's favourite, and now one of mine. There's a remake from the 90s but the 40s original is funny and touching. I love it!
It's a Wonderful Life - Others have mentioned this, but I wanted to say that this is so much a part of American Christmas that there is one television channel that runs a 24 hour marathon of this film on Christmas Eve!
The Bishop's Wife - Another 40s film, this one is about a bishop trying to get a cathedral built for his community but can't get enough money together. He asks for help and a Cary-Grant-shaped angel comes to earth to help him.
Miracle on 34th Street - The black and white original version is excellent!
An Affair to Remember - This isn't terribly Christmassy, but they do meet at Christmas Eve so I've always counted it a Christmas movie. I always think black and white romances are great at Christmas!
Animation Classics - These still get played on telly every year in the States. There's a huge nostalgic love for them in my age group (25-35) but my neices and nephews (2-13) love them too! A Charlie Brown Christmas has to be included here too.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - The original animated version is 100000000% better than the horrible John Carey live action version.
More modern favourites:
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Edward Scissorhands
Scrooged
Bad Santa
I'm sure there are dozens more I'm forgetting!0
