You'll be taxed £2 extra this year due to the form not being processed in time (and thus not applied for in /due time/)

The ISA isn't the best around so I'd just apply elsewhere (NatWest/RBS etc)
It's certainly not worth kicking up a fuss over for £2.

    Thanks Tweet for your info.
It was just a shock thinking you had an ISA in May and suddenly being told its invalid.

IMHO Tudor you've had a lucky escape, A&L's customer service and attitude are pants in my view. I'm currently complaining via the FOS for shoddy service that has left me without an ISA for one tax year and hundred of pounds out of pocket due to their !!!! ups. I abhor bad customer service but this was inexcusably, shocking and will continue unless people like me complain about such service.

ooh in edit, the site wont let me say male chicken, it shows as !!!! - ha ha!

  • am I right in thinking this direct issue 4 rate has dropped to around 3.5%, I am considering moving to Natwest's ISA (i have £13,000), do you think this is worth while or will there rate drop soon too?

I think its lame that savers always seem to get the bad deal...

Blimey 3.55 including bonus. Im sure I checked last week and it was still 5.5> So they dropped it 2%?

Thats made my decision for me, I'm cashing out our ISAs and putting it into the mortgage overpayment fund instead where I can get 6% fixed tax free!
  • I can't even find the page where it states the current interest rate for the DirectISA Issue 4. Anyone have a link? Also, any recommendations for a new ISA?

Put the first 3 digits of your account number in the following:
    http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/savings/interest-rates.aspx

Alternatively, select 'Closed issue accounts' in the 'Browse savings interest rates by type of account' option box.
  • Thanks for that. Well, I'm off to the Halifax for a fixed term ISA now then!

It was 5.25 yesterday, the rate changed today. I fixed mine earlier with Nothern Rock at 4.90, decided not to gamble with Halifax, they can change their rate at any time ..

    I thought as much!

I recommend everybody do what they are gonna do quick. I dare say the bank rate is plummeting again this week. Probably is even too late to move it now what with how ISA transfers take weeks/months these days!

If anybody has a NR or other flexible mortgage and don't mind losing the ISAness you can get your tax free interest this way :T
