Anyone know of one - needs to be reasonably priced for my teenage dd.

Sh uses mostly texts but want some call time too.

Any good deals around - or anyone know of a nice handset that will fit the bill

Many thanks

  • Hi

Need more info really! Age? Budget? Does she need "trendy" or functional?

Personally my kids have "bricks" as phones-Nice and old an un desireable as I (and they) are aware how potent phones are as a reason for mugging (they are 15 and 12 BTW).

DD1 (15) has this phone http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/sony-ericsson-k750i.htm which she loves and I gues the equivalent now available would be the 770i (which is on voda) at £72. THat would be my top budget and, only because I knew she'd look after it and not flash it about.

DS has an old sendo which really is a brick:rotfl: He is getting a K530i for Xmas as I got it on a 6month contract with 3 but don't need it (using my old phone). From the reviews this seems a pretty good workhorse like phone too, but it will do music and blue tooth which his old brick doesn't. He will be 13 in Jan. BTW these are only £49.99 on 3 P+G , and even if you are totally committed to voda then with the £15 unlock fee they are cheaper than the £70 CEX are selling them for 2nd hand- how weird is that!

ETA You don't mention it, but please don't get sucked into getting a contract for her in your name. If you have been browsing MSE for a while you'd see that this is a really risky route. If needed buy the phone and a contract SIM but even then you are siging up for any "lost phone" debts.

She is 18 and doesn't have a proper job so wants something affordable.

Must be fashionable - and NOT a brick - lol :)

I wont get a ontract in my name - but I think she is thinkiing about one in hers.

Any recommendations for which one would be best - has to be Vodaphone as its the only signal that works round here.

    Thanks for your help :)
  • Go through Quidco for £150 cashbask (potentially) with Vodafone.
    .....

  • There's currently a £150 Quidco cashback deal on the Omnia phone with Vodafone.

If, for instance, she opted for the 12 month £35 deal giving 200mins and 500 texts, then the monthly cost (after the cashback had been taken into account) would be £22.50

Or, select just a contract with another choice of phone to get £90 Quidco cashback. For example, the £20 per month deal of 200mins and unlimited texts over 18 months would then equate to just £15 per month

The choice of phones on that deal are limited (the ones for free, that is) but you could still get the Sony K770i in girlie pink - but also available in black!

    Food for thought...

So - if I wanted to go with the Quidco - do I have to buy the phone online? If so - where from please?

Sorry - this is all new to me

Quidco is a referral site that you initially enter, then click on the links to any of the numerous companies they deal with - you then buy directly off that company (pretty much as though you had gone straight there).

There's a guide here to cash-back referral sites (the link is to a page on MSE)

You would then buy online from Vodafone, the transaction would be tracked and after approx 3-4 months you'd be credited with the 'cashback' as stated.

If the phone deal as being purchased by your daughter, you would be advised to set up a Quidco account in her name, since the tracking of the deal should enable a match to the Quidco user and end purchaser (in other words, if you set up Quidco in your name and the phone was purchased in your daughter's, there would be a mismatch of names).

Quidco is free to join - they take only the first £5 that you earn through cashbacks in any one year and the rest is yours. They tend to offer a greater amount than their rivals for this reason - they act as a near co-operative.

The above cashback deals are very different to the cashback deals where you claim back by redemption, having to remember to send bills at certain times etc etc. This sort is paid 'automatically' to you as soon as Quidco receive the referral bonus from the company selling the product or service.

There are a few minor points to be aware of though, so read the guide linked above.
