Just a little down note here. I got the 3 hunky firemen and engine and they took away my alarms, which incidently worked fine and replaced them with they amazing new ones.

The battery pack cannot be replaced but is meant to last 10 years. That was last summer. 2 of mine have gone flat already. So while I wait for those hunky men to come again (because I they won't let me take them back to them myself) I am 2 alarms down. Think I should go a buy some more.

Give them a call and tell them that you are terrified in case you have a fire, because the two alarms they fitted have packed up. The chances are that they will come round in the next day or so.

Unfortunately there have been one or two dodgy batches of smoke alarms about, and it seems like yours are from one of them.

Just a reminder: don't forget to test your smoke alarms every week :T

Just resurrecting this thread to say I have just had a vibrating smoke alarm and strobe light fitted by the fire service. I am deaf in one ear and sleep on my 'good' ear (which actually is due to be tested cos I htink I'm losing my hearing in that ear too). The smoke alarm is a FireAngel one and the vibrating pad and strobe are connected via wifi to the actual alarm. I googled and the whole kit costs over £80! Didn't cost me anything. So thank you, Greater Manchester Fire Service. I really do appreciate it. I will feel much safer at night now that I know I will be wakened if the smoke alarm goes off.

So go get a fire check - if you're not disabled you will get a 'normal' smoke alarm, and if you have a hearing impairment you will probably get a vibrating alarm. All free - what a bargain!

And it might save some poor firefighter having to come looking for you in a blazing house .....
