Our agent told us that fire alarms were the tenants responsibility but the council officer reckoned different! And, if you rent a house more than 2 stories high then the Housing Health and Safety regs mean that the LL has to fit a mains powered alarm.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I need some fire alarms, two of mine started beeping for no reason and the only way to shut them up was to cut the wires. I'll add it to my list of things to do!
Does anyone know if you can have them installed lower down, say on the walls? I really struggle to lift my arms up to stop them when they're on the ceiling.

I know it's a resurection of an old thread but it is always an important subject.
In reply to the above quote ... again  If they are beeping all the time it means there is a problem .. usually a flat battery ... if not then replace the whole unit.
Contact your local fire service .. they will fit one for free as well as carry out (with your permission) a risk assessment for your home and give you any relevant advice.
They do supply smoke alarms for the deaf or hard of hearing ... these consist of a viprating pad for UNDER YOUR PILLOWand a flashing strobe light. Linked to a standard smoke detector.
Any more questions please ask.
I am a firefighter .... one of the not so hunky ones;)A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

hunky or not, male or female firefighters... U are all doing a brilliant job without much recognition to the fact your lives are on the line every time you are called out to a fire. Just returned from holiday to hear about the terrible fire in Dalry,Edinburgh... Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the firefighter who lost his life.... Over a year since my kitchen fire but alarms are still in working order...
Thanks for that ... all our thoughts are with Ewans family.
It's very sad to lose a brother in the line of duty.
Sometimes through all the politics, people forget that although a lot of our time is spent doing community safety and tackling petty little fires, from time to timme we do and will risk our lives to save others.A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0
