I have just found out that my Orange phone contract is now charging for 0800 numbers. I phoned customer service and they said that I could not revise the 12mth contract and I was tied in to remain till next September. They also said I was the only customer to complain. Is this the end of 1899 or 18866 mobile over-ride? Anyone got any advice?

They told you lies, plenty of customers have complained. No it's not the end of 1899.

Yes this is the case. There's a lengthy thread on here about this. Some people have managed to get Orange to defer this on their contracts for one year.

Dear Forum Members,
I have just had a callback from the Executive Office of Orange confirming:
1. that an 0800 freephone bundle has been added to my account for 12 months
2. that I am receiving a credit note for £ 170.- for calls made to freephone numbers whilst travelling/roaming in the USA, Canada and France.
Thanks & compliments to Rhysw who posted the email addresses in this forum (sanjiv.ahuja@orange.co.uk and executive.office@orange.co.uk) and all the other contributors in this thread, as it helped me greatly to formulate my e-mail to Orange.

My compliments to the Moneysavingexpert forum. It is very effective.
By the way, does anybody know already whether the 0808 numbers that 1899, 18866 and 18185 use are included in the Orange freephone bundle ? I know they used to be but are they in the future ? The Executive Office itself did not know whether they were covered.

Yes, and 0500.
Though 0500, which was originally assigned to Mercury, will be phased out as a freephone number. No new 0500 numbers in the freephone range are likely to be assigned.0
