A&L credit card

1) MBNA is NOT part of the Alliance and Leicester plc group nor is a subsidiary of it. So they do NOT have any rights whatsoever in having access to your data.
The fact that A&L contracts out some credit card services to MBNA does NOT authorise them to get access to information about A&L customers, unless A&L customers require those services
I hope this is clear.
MBNA are acting for and on behalf of A&L so they do have a right to your data insofar as they are acting in that capacity. If your information had been broadcast to the whole of the MBNA group I might agree with you but you have offered no evidence of that.
To be perfectly honest you have offered very little apart from the fact that you have been offered a credit card in error. If your complaints to A&L have been anywhere near as assertive, bordering on aggressive, and full of unproved assumptions I have no doubt that your treatment will have been less than enjoyable.
My final suggestion to you on this subject is to chill out, drop the paranoia, write a letter of complaint to A&L listing all of your grievances and a suggestion for what, in your opinion, would be a reasonable settlement of the situation. You simply cannot make completely unjustifiable accusations of financial misdealings with no evidence and expect to be taken seriously or treated compassionately, you have suffered no financial losses as far as I am aware and if you believe your treatment from A&L has been seriously flawed the best idea might be to simply ask them to terminate all dealings with you and go somewhere else instead.0 -
Have you written to A&L at their head office in Leicester expressing your concerns? This is important, phoning their call centres in Bootle or Leeds will not suffice.
The reason for replying to your post is that I have held 3 MBNA credit cards for many years, and had A&L bank accounts for 2 years. Of the two companies I would trust MBNA more than A&L, they are more efficient. They may bombard you with junk mail for insurance, loans and more credit card offers with cheques attatched, but that is it. You bin the mail or ask them to stop sending it and register with the Mail Preference Service.
With regard to A&L, they are a "Building Society" pretending to be a bank, to expand they bought the ailing Post Office Giro Bank, based in Bootle and combined it with their operations in Leeds. They are not the most competent, and in fact before you originally posted, I was in the process of closing my accounts with them for the odd mistake and a big disagreement.
I would suggest that your problem(s) started with someone in Bootle having a bad day, pressing a wrong key or mis-reading, something resulting in MBNA being instructed to issue you with a credit card.
You should cut it up and return it to MBNA with a covering note explaining that it was " unsolicited ", expressing your concerns and that their system should be improved.

No point in writing there as it will simply be passed to Bootle anyway, Carlton Park has no dealings with the current accounts at all. While it may be considered the official 'Head Office' to those outside of the business ie. where the Chief Exec is based, each product has it's own head office and it's own complaints department, in the case of current accounts being bootle, personal loans being Heritage House etc.....
You can of course write to Carlton Park, but it will be put in the internal mail and passed to Bootle.0 -
Not if it is marked FAO Chief Executive (by name), and Personal, in a perfumed envelope. :xmassmileac's lovechild0

Thanks to all who replied.
My questions related to very specific aspects of opening credit cards (as asked many time in this thread) while I see you do not have the related information ot do not wish to reply to those questions.
As for data protection laws and formal complains, do not worry.
I already contacted the A&L contact centre and also passed a formal complain with full data, description of multiple wrongdoings and resulting financial loss on my side to solve the issues.
The A&L web site has a postal address on their web site (contac us section) where passing complaints if anyone has.0
