The 65 working days(13 weeks) is the time that BG have to formally notify you of the increase.
From the time you get this notification, you have 10 days to apply to switch supplier.
I could get my notification on 01 Oct and you on 01 Dec. If we both decided to switch companies, you would get an extra 2 months at the pre-increase rate.0 -
I wonder how many of the GB public actually know about this? 1%? 2%? 0.5%? 0.00005%??This should be shouted from the rooftops by people like Martin Lewis and the various energy industry campaigners, don't you think? I've certainly told all the friends whose gas/elect bills I am charged with minitoring, lol. Many of them are now doing like me, using Quidco to transfer to SP for £62 cashback, and insisting on paying the old Click 5 rates until the switch is effected. Should be fun..Call me Carmine....

They put them upon September 30th so they have to inform you in writing within 3months of that date so end of December. Will see.0 -
My switch is due to be completed next week. If they have until 31 December to notify me, what are the chances that they send a letter 2nd class on say 21th December, which won't be received until after Christmas and it's likely that customer service will be shut until the new year? Should I be pro-active and contact them about the higher prices for click 5 on their website if I haven't had a letter by the end of next month.0

I would be very surprised now if they dont inform everyone within the timeframe as I, and I am sure many others have spoken to OFGEM so you can guarantee that OFGEM have had a word on the quiet with them. But if I was you I would just wait. I made the mistake of ringing them and changing to Click 6 which with hindsight was the wrong thing to do.0

Just an update from me as I started the thread last month.
I'm still transferring to British Gas Click Energy 5 and the only prices I have been informed of by them, in writing, are the old prices which existed prior to the Click Energy 5 price increase and the introduction of Click Energy 6. I will stick with Click Energy 5 until I am informed of a price increase and will then switch my electricity to Click Energy 6 and my gas back to npower (where it is currently moving from) or whatever is cheapest at the time. Obviously I'll still expect to be billed on the old Click Energy 5 tariff until I have made the switch, and I might very well inform British Gas that I don't accept the new Click Energy 5 prices and wait 60 days before telling them I want to switch to Click Energy 6 just to wring as much from the cheaper price as legally allowed.0 -
I'm not at all convinced you can get the old rate by switching to another tariff with the same supplier, in fact i would say that's not possible. Far better to 'stick it to them' by transferring to Scottish power for £62 cashback, write informing them you don't accept the Click 5 increase and you are switching supplier and request to pay at old rates until completion. If you really want to go back to Click 6, do it a few months down the line for up to £40 cashback! Result? £100+ cashback, plus paying the OLD Click 5 rates for at least 2 months until the switch is comnpleted. Quids in and sticking it to the rip-offs at the same time....Call me Carmine....

I switched to click 5 in August. I was prev on BG standard tariff so the savings were huge. I have never received anything to confirm the tariff switch was actioned. Today I read that the prices increased and that I needed to join click 6 to get the best rate, this I have just done online, however after reading some of these posts I am confused. Have I done the right thing to secure best possible BG price? Have I shot myself in the foot trying to save a few quid?0

You should have received some correspondence which informed you about your Click Energy 5 prices. Compare those to the Click Energy 6 prices you have switched to and you'll know whether you are better off now or not. I know that I am better off on the old Click Energy 5 prices vs Click Energy 6 but I won't be if/when I am informed of the Click Energy 5 price rise. I don't have access to the old Click Energy 5 prices for every region, just my region, and I don't know which region you are in. Someone else might. Regardless it's too late for you to switch back to the old prices. I would have thought that if you were switching tariffs within British Gas, as you said you were, you would have been informed of the price rises. It's people who are switching to British Gas who currently haven't been told of the price rise of Click Energy 5.0
