We spent several days in the capital, Brussels, this summer and it was wonderful. Fantastic parks, all sorts of history and museums. We got to go to an outdoor film festival for free, even! Absolutely fabulous.Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0

if you're taking a car, then hit the autosnelweg (motorway) from calais and head for bruges - takes @ 1hr.
bruges xmas market starts 6 Dec. while not the best market, it's still worth a dabble - plus you get to see the best preserved medieval town in w.europe.
