surely the council would be intrested in subletting make a call and ask they could have them kicked out as she would be moving a partner in , will she declare this to council ... im guessing not

I know when I had my council flat I was amazed to read in the tenancy agreement that subletting it WAS allowed!
  • She might cite this thread as part of her police statement.
Does that make you lot an accessory to the fact?

My 4rse is covered in my posting :)

I'll send out cakes with files in ... brb .. off to the Old Style Cooking Board see if they've got cake/file recipes. There are some right dodgy characters over there, it's bound to have been requested/posted before now.

I have an alibi. I was on here all along with neverdesparegirl. That should get me off the hook.

the OP's sister is not a tenant.
Surely the OP's sister IS a tenant. Maybe not of the Council, but a tenant all the same.

It will get you off that hook, but into a bigger mess when the police turn up at her door to confirm the alibi ... and her other half hears about you!

    :)
  • I'm not too bothered if I get locked up anyway. So long as I'm locked up with BA, Hannibal, Face and Murdoch, we'll be able to make a battering ram out of a toilet and bed and laugh into the sunset.

    Or don't get caught.

I was once told that the ONLY crime was getting caught.
  • Hi
I wondered if someone could help me. I have been living in a houe with 4 other people. I have just found out the landlord has knowingly only been renting to 4 of us. The 5th person has been a sublet by 2 of the housemates, without the landlords permission. These 2 housemates have been paying half a rooms rent between them, with the other half covered by the illegal subletter. What is the legal position on this? We feel like they have cheaten money of us. Would the police even care? if someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.
  • No, the police won't be interested. If there's any rule-breaking going on here it's a contractual issue, not a criminal one. You may or may not be involved or even have a say depending on whether you four have individual contracts or a joint-and-several one.

Should have started your own/new thread. That aside, my first thoughts are:

HMO regs - house is an HMO probably. House is now probably overcrowded, so possibly illegal to have that many in there (potentially dangerous).

HMO regs change across the country.

Grass up those sub-letting to the LL and let him sort it out.... he's being cheated too and is potentially putting his insurance cover (and legal status) at risk.

Start a new thread please. Go to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 and use the new thread button.

This thread dates from 2008, and it wastes people's time to read through 3 pages of a problem which is dead and has nothing to do with your problem. Plus you may find people start answering the original problem.
