It used to be the most popular basic card but Electron appears to be taking over and, as far as I know, you can only get a Solo card from Natwest and HSBC now.

I think that it's only taking over because they're stopping offering solo so people can't get them. In practice, Solo is much better so I've changed banks just to get one.

sometimes try to use your electron card where it says VISA, it sometimes worked for me :o

yeah iv done the same selected visa then inputted my electron card and it worked but only a few times.
Im with woolwich a and have asked them if theres another card i could use because the electron was quite limited but they said no.
More and more places though are starting to accept it from when i first started online shopping.their also starting to accept paypal alot more so i dont think itll be long until its accepted as much as the other cards

I thought that electrons were for electronic use only - hence why most sites don't take them? We always had to swipe them manually where i used to work - got told by visa that if we took them online and it bounced etc we weren't covered because the card hadn't been used how it was supposed to be. Never had any trouble with solo though.

I would be surprised if Boots do as they do not even accept visa electron in their stores

Electron is VISA's cheaper version of the card designed for lower rated or high risk customers (read that as non-profit).

Solo is Switch's cheaper version of the card designed for lower rated or high risk customers (read that as non-profit).

Most international students will for example be given these as they cannot really be traced to an address in the U.K.
