I've just cancelled my direct debit and found out that Utilita took some money out of my bank account today - £11.84 which is totally unrelated to what I normally pay. So check your bank accounts.0

Hi
I.m not sure if I want to go to EFI Energy - are they the cheapest / best for me ?
Is there any way to stop this transfer ? - no notice seems a bit strange
can the regulatory people help ? - say by give 4 weeks for us to choose suppliers before Utilia shut down - or are they stapped for cash??
any ideas?
thanks

Hi Again
Guess what - a quick check on uswitch shows me that i can save up to £80 by switching to another supplier - in this case powergen
so I guess its time to enter the fray of "dont want to go to EDF want to go to Powergen"
wonder how this will go? - just on Xmas as well - good timing by Utilia!!
regards

I have received the two letters as most of you have, I am three weeks away approx. from my 10% cashback.
I spoke to Utilita Friday afternoon 09/12 to ask about this, I was told that in the buyout contract between the companies it had been written in to cover this situation, the lady saying to me that she and her fellow staff besides being employees were also customers themselves. This had been of concern to them.
I decided to check with EDF this morning. The operator after referring to her manager informed me they will not be honouring it.
Not happy about the £40-00 surcharge, also with EDF they will not tell you about other details of their services until we are transfered over and account activated.
Are we entering a new minimum 12 month contract before being able to escape to a cheaper supplier?

Has anyone else had the same letter as me explaining about these changes
Can they increase both Electric & Gas charges !!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!

Check out the other thread in this section...I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0

if Utilita lawfully apply such a charge and am I obliged to pay.
Great news please keep us all informed on progress.
I'm affected exactly the same.!!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!

Have had a chance to look at all the documentation (letters from both parties etc). I wonder if anyone else has had a chance to do the same.
This is my suggestion.
Decide whether or not you want to go to the new supplier or someone else- (through a comparisom service?)
Cancel DD to utilita, the bill for the gas and electricity used will have to be paid so when the final bill comes in pay it less the surcharge. Send the cheque together with a copy of the bill explaining that you are not prepared to pay the surcharge as you feel it unreasonable that they apply it and then two weeks later stop supplying, and that the banking of your cheque should only be done if they accept that this it will in full and final settlement of your account.Keep a copy of all the paperwork.
Send to their customer relations department rather than the normal accounts department.I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0 -

I agree stanmoresaver and I have already cancelled my DD and applied through a comparison service for a new provider (another company owned by EDF but their prices are cheaper hmmm?)
However just to add - the EDF letter states that you have 14 days to reply if you wish to change provider and they will not adjust the prices until you move. So it is worth ringing them straightaway to let them know. Not sure if you still need to give them meter readings though.

Pretty sure you will and would be sensible to anyway, even if the info isn't supplied to UtilitaI am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0
