How to Make Trike for Disability?

Does anyone know if I can make an ordinary electric trike into a disability trike? I was thinking of buying a second hand electric trike and putting a chair or someting on the post, instead of the saddle, to support my back. Is this allowed? I have seen a back back support on the internet but they look so small. Dont want a Disability Scooter as I have tried it and didn't get on with it. Just wanted an ordinary looking trike. The recumbant ones are too low down for me.

Hi Linni, I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I need a trike - I think a recumbent trike might do for me, but I haven't tried any out yet as they are majorly too expensive, even second hand, so any tips or info will be appreciated.

    Any disabled cyclists out there?

    Hi Daisy

I need a trike too and I just want it to look like an ordinary bike and not a disabled scooter.

There must be a someone out there who can advise us on a cheaper way of making a trike/bike suitable for a disabled person!!!

    Anyone with any ideas???

Ask REMAP to make you one:

    http://www.remap.org.uk

Or ask your local High School Technology Department to make you one as a technology project.

Thanks Allydowd. I think that contacting the Technology Department of the local school is a great idea. I will ask my children (teenagers) and see if they can get some ideas from their schools and I might email some others and see if they can suggest anything, might be a good project for them too....

I will take a look at the Remap site too. But I think they may have far more deserving causes than me.

They can help with all sorts of adaptations to bikes and trikes.

Sadly DH has crashed his trike at the moment which is why we need the bus pass :(

    Hi,

I dont know if this will be of any help to you, but I applied for a trike for my disabled daughter from Whizz Kids, My daughter is 17 and the bike will see her right through her adult years and they make them to measure. Im sorry I dont have a direct link but it can be googled and you can make an application yourself. And I only had to give a small donation of what I could afford. I think I gave them £35.00 and that was for a £700 trike.

    Hope this helps.
