Warrantywise - Peugeot 407

Hi,
I am about to purchase a used peugeot 407 sw 2.0 HDi.
I am considering taking out a warranty but can't decide whether it is worth the expense.
The car is a 54 plate with 66000 miles, FSH from a leasing company with full itemisation of all parts fitted during that time.
i have been quoted by warrantywise £35 per month including wear & tear and MOT cover. how does that sound to you?
i know i could put the money away each month but know i won't.
anyone had any dealing with warrantywise? they are 'endorsed' by Quentin Wilson, someone i have always trusted for views on secondhand cars and seemingly he had something to do with constructing the policy too. Their blurb states that they cover ALL mechanical and ALL electrical parts.

£35 sounds a lot!
The ones I sell are about ten wuid a month for two years.
That covers most stuff.
As you're buying a French car it's well worth having the peace of mind of the warranty!0 -
i have a 406 with three times that mileage on, its been faultless0

i have looked at cheaper warranties but they do not cover wear & tear and almost any fault on a car could be put down to wear & tear if you try hard enough.
This is probably the most expensive quote i got but it is the only one that states ALL mechanical and ALL electrical parts covered unlike others which have either inclusion or exclusion lists. I added the Wear & Tear, MOT repair and tyre cover options.
Like you say.. peace of mind. I used to fix my own cars but as they get more complex it becomes a much harder task and parts have become far more expensive. Almost every compaint about warranty companies on these forums comes down to either the part being worn or not covered at all. This quote is £7 per month more than what Warranty Direct quoted my but it seems to include a hell of a lot more and much fewer get out clauses. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

i ran a 406 a few years ago up to 170k and the only problem i had was front suspension springs. i sold it nearly three yearss ago and saw it on the road about a month ago... glad to see its still on the go.
'twas a good car.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

406's were brilliant.
307, 407 and 607 are not so good!
We're just about to give up stocking the 307's as you spend your margin putting the sodding thing right.
The 407SW is very small if you're thinking of getting it as a useful estate car.0 -
i only need an estate car as i have dogs and do agility so need to ferry them about in the car, the boot is adequit for that and once we get a couple of cages in the back the split tailgate can be opened to ventilate teh boot so it suits us. There is just me and my partner so i have no interest in the back seats which i believe are fairly tight for the size of car - i don't care, i'll never be sitting there!
i will also be getting a caravan next spring so need something with enough guts to tow it.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
i've had warranty direct calling me to ttry and lower their price... wonder if its worth phoning warrantywise and haggling a bit???
they are now a tenner cheaper per month but still only cover their list of components. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

I'd be very surpirised if you can get cages in the back of a 407SW - have you actually seen one close up? The whole thing slopes inwards from every angle making it more like a 407 hatchback, rather than SW...
I had a cage for my two dogs in the back of an Astra estate I was running for a bit and no way would the cage fit in a 407.
Why don't you take your cage along with you to see if it fits? People take prams and push chairs to test.0 -
i don't have the cages yet. the dogs have done some damage to the back of my current car as they get a bit excited at agility shows. hence i'm getting cages for the new car. it is also a major struggle keeping one dog in the car when taking the other out for a run, hence i need to get either one big cage split, with two door or two seperate cages.
i have ordered two of these sloping cages http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=380065288454 that should fit.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
Just for the record and review purposes. I have a warrantywise policy and have been very happy with the service. Its not the cheapest policy but definately the best as far as I am concerned.0
