Orange and short code texts

Hi Guys

I have just been onto Orange after recently discovering that a certain company has been sending me short code text messages and charging me £1.50 a time for the privelage. I never asked for these to be sent to my number, and I have no idea how they even obtained my number. Anyhow, this has been going on for the last 2 years and I was oblivious to this as I was on PAYG until recently changing over to contract. It was when I examined my bill that I discovered the charges.

Anyway, when I spoke to Orange they simply washed their hands of it and took no interest in my situation whatsoever. This is despite the fact my contract is with them, and not the company in question. They only gave me the name of the company involved and their tel. number (which was unobtainable) and an option to text 'STOP' to stop any further texts. However, when I tried this, I only received another text from them (at my cost) saying that my message was not recognised!

I am currently trying to 'Google' the company name for further info., but wonder if there are any other people on this forum that have had similar problems with this type of thing.
