Gluten Free the old style way

Just to add, Waitrose currently have their gluten free products on 3 for 2 and sainsburys have theirs on 5 for 4.
Lots of the supermarket own brand cereals are gluten free.
I do tend to make DS's cakes and basically just buy doves farm Gluten Free flour and follow the same 2oz flour/sugar/butter to 1 egg recipe I use for normal cakes. You don't need to add Xanthum gum or add liquid to the mix, its fine as it is. Also you can make excellent yorkshire puddings with doves farm flour as well, I used to make them with a butter and water recipe but they again came out better just following the same recipe as normal yorkshires.
The biggest issue we had when DS was first diagnosed coeliac was gravy, the gluten free one smelt horrible and it took a while to find out that Bisto Best gravy is acceptable for coeliacs, very nice gravy and we all eat it.
If you tend to use jars for cooking, dolmio lasagne and bolognaise sauces are gluten free as are sharwoods curry sauce. If you like your curries, be careful with poppadoms as some companies do put gluten in them. Soups are another for adding gluten as a thickening agent.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000 -
Well, I went to Waitrose and got some brown Genius bread which I had for lunch, lovely.. Also bought some ciabatta, granola and the fresh rice noodles plus a big bag of potatoes for baking and lots of veg, fruit and salad.
I wasn't expecting the GF products to be quite so pricey though, £2.90 for a small loaf of bread! I had to buy some posh pistachio ice cream to cheer myself up!
Bought some Bisto Best gravy to have with the roast later, though how I'll cope without stuffing I'm not sure.. I couldn't see a GF alternative.
I already use Knorr stock cubes so that's good, is marmite ok? I'm not au fait with all the ingredients as yet..
I will be eating out twice this week as it's mine and my son's birthday.. Luckily I've checked the website for Bar Estilo (my fave) and they have a fair few GF meals so I'll choose that for my bday, unfortunately my son wants to go to our fave Chinese but I'm pretty sure I'll struggle there!
I didn't buy any GF flour, budget has taken a hammering so may have to wait a week for that, will give me time to research some recipes!
Thanks for all the advice, it's been a great help.0 -

If you really need to do it as a test then read the labels on everything. It's hidden in so many products, sausages, burgers etc. I found the document in the link below the most useful for this and have given it to family and friends that have cooked for me
https://www.coeliac.org.uk/document-library/126-gluten-free-checklist/gluten-free-checklist.pdf
Obviously the not gluten free is only in the normal aisles you can get free from alternatives.
Have you had a test for coeliac diseas? If you are an actual coeluac then you need to be eating wheat to be tested. M&S do a gluten free stuffing and you can make your own pretty easily. Mrs crumbles also do a mix I've seen in sainsburys xPay off Debts by Christmas 2015 = DEBT FREE!0 -

G/f cereals: rice krispies, Oatibix. Porridge made with rolled oats but check the label, also cornflakes should be ok but check the label..
Do read the labels - both Kellogg's cornflakes and rice krispies contain malt which comes from barley and are not gluten free. I see Kellogg's do a separate gluten free type of rice krispies - I must look out for them.
Rice cakes are boring, but easily available (though there is a brand of flavoured ones which has gluten in!) Lidls has them cheaply. Don't forget sweet potatoes as a nice alternative to normal potatoes. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

You may struggle with crisps. I think many contain MSG which has something to do with wheat.
Eating out is a right pain. You can't have certain salad dressing too.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

MSG doesn't have anything to do with gluten

I don't have to have a gluten free or wheat free diet, but as I'm on slimming world I have researched alternatives to rice on an original day. It came up with cauliflower. You can use it apparently (not tried it myself yet) to make a pizza base. You can also make it into a rice.
Cauliflower rice is lovelyI make it with coconut oil and an onion x
