opened letters through the mail

I recieved my post one day last week and out of 4 letters recieved one was opened all the way along it's base exposing the contents inside, banking documents;ie a paying in book and a number of envelopes. A couple of hours later my postman returned to deliver a small parcel,I questioned him on this opened letter. Sorry he replied I didn't notice it otherwise I would have put in a plastic bag we carry for such occasions, it's been raining and must have got wet in my bag. Yes it was raining but why was the envelope with the bank documents the only letter it happened to? must have been because it was coloured green an had the Egg banking logo on it. emmmm!!!!.
I am sorry to say over recent years I have had similar things happen, I don't trust Royal Mail anymore

Relax, it was just the water in his bag. When it rains here heavy in the morning I quite regularly get wet letters and sometimes only one them has been positioned in his bag to be wet all the way along one edge, and thus is open or able to be opened with ease.0

In the situation described, the holder of this financial account has every reason to be concerned; yes it is perhaps slightly possible that this is an innocent occurence ..but considering the letter concerned would give access to his account details "Relax" is not a word anyone with the security minded savvy required in the modern world of Fraud and Identity Fraud would use!0 -
I tell it it how I see it, cowboy.
plus you're full of it saying virtually all my posts are DA type posts, why don't you justify your statement.0 -

oh and btw OP, was the envelope wet along that edge? it would seem to justify why it was open.0

I won't bite on the 'you're full of it' bit ...how old are you for heavens sake?
Why don't you justify using the word "Relax" when the person could be in danger of Fraud or Identity Theft?0 -
I just did, if the letter was wet and it was a rainy day or the previous day was, I'd put it down to the rain and get on with my life, as I have done in this exact scenario many times before.0

hiya,
I think it's natural to be worried when you receive opened mail....especially if it is a bank document. I know I would be worried about something falling out.
However, I do think that if it was indeed an attempt at fraudulent activity, then they would have kept the whole letter and not even bothered to put it back so it could be delivered to you. I mean...why would they want to make you suspicious and alert you to the fact that they were stealing your details?
All in all, keep an eye on your account - I'm sure most people check their statements anyways. But don't stress out too much about it - not much else you can do besides just keep your eye on your account.
If you ring the bank and tell them what happened and that you're worried about someone having your details - they will just tell you to look at your statements regularly etc (i use to work at a bank call centre). The most paranoid of customers actually shut down their accounts and opened up new ones (to get new account numbers!).
All the best,
Chaching0
