Cancelling Virgin Media Package? Help?

Options
I moved home in Dec 2007 and took my Virgin Media Services with me to my new home...in which i signed a new 12 month contract.

However, as i was privately renting, i ended up moving out in Aug 2008 and moving back in with my father (who already has virgin tv & phone) until my new accomodation was ready.

I phoned them before i moved out in August and was told that i am contracted till Dec 2008 and if i wanted to cancel i would need to pay £129! As i couldn't afford to do that they advised me to take my services with me and schedule an installation date for my new address in 4 weeks time. My new place was no where near ready by that time in which i phoned Virgin up and told them this. They insisted on re-scheduling in another 4 weeks time (which will be 30th Oct 08) and i'll need to cancel that one again as my house is a complete shambles!

In fact my house won't be ready till about the end of Jan 09!!!

Is there any way of getting out of this contract?

Unfortunately you've agreed to the contract so you if you want to get out of the contract you would have to pay the remaining months that are left on there.

Just a note... Try and figure out whether it's worth just leaving it... BT Tried to charge us a fortune, but to just leave it to "expire" cost less.

Failing that, maybe speak to the landlord - see if you can transfer?
  • Well how does thats work then normanmark?

If i am contracted till Dec 08 and moved out of my previous address in Aug 08?

Does that mean that if i keep rescheduling till Dec 08 i can then cancel without paying? Because i'm only contracted till Dec 08!

Yes in short. You are liable for the months till Dec 08 whether you use the service or not.

If you want to cancel the contract now, then you would pay the months from now till December.
  • So if i were to re-schedule my date this month which is the 30th Oct 08 to say the 30th Nov 08 and then do the same next month...my 12 month contract will have reached its end (contracted till 4th Dec 08) and i could cancel my services without paying anything? is this correct? or have i got muddled up?

If i wanted to stay with Virgin Media i would have to keep on re-scheduling anyway until my house is ready to move into!
  • be warned....when we moved in april 08 phoned virgin med told them they said no problem theyll just reconnect at new house, unfortunately were not in a cable area, person on phone said "just pay normal amount £30" but over the last5 months weve had nothing but probs, apparently because we TOLD them we were moving, were supposed to pay the entire bill up to dec 08.
if we hadnt told them we'd still be able to pay monthly contractual payments
they tell you one thing then do something totally different.
