Fred Olsen Just Cancelled This Weekends Cruise

Hi anyone in the same boat as me ( or no boat as it seems) had a cruise booked for this Sat on the Boudicca, 3 night mini cruise,had letter from Fred Olsen this morning, telling me due to mechanical problems they have cancelled the cruise, they are offering 25% off a cruise up to a weeks duration as compensation, I think this is pretty poor considering this last minute cancellation.

i trust you got ful lrefund for original trip? write asking for higher discount (if you intend to use them again), or for compo in cash- did you incur any costs? train tickets already paid for, parking, overnight hotel before depature etc?

these might be covered with travel insurance, which I DO hope you took out, esp. for a cruise..

In answer to to question, yes we do have travel insurance, but how can you be compensated for a weeks holiday, now at home with no more bookable work holidays till 2009. Extra cloths bought,etc, etc, etc, I think what Fred Olsen is offering as compensation is totally inadequate,

write and tell them then (enclose copy receipts etc; do aserious guilt trip- 'shame on you' etc...)

i dont think some firms realise / care what stress arranging a hliday can cause, god forbid when it gets canx, esp at short notice..

what reason did they give, btw?

We are in the same position but we have not received the letter. Another of our party have received the letter today- pretty short notice! 16 of us were travelling, two birthdays and a wedding anniversary. We booked nearly a year ago and are very disappointed. Exactly the same thing happened to us with a Fred Olsen cruise booked for next July but obviously with more notice. Last time they had sold the cruise too cheaply, this time technical problems? If they had realised what had been arranged, staff cover, holiday entitlement, pet boarding, flu jabs for the elderly, car parking, taxis, new clothes, overnight stay... the list is endless(!!) perhaps they would realise just how pathetic an offer of 25% discount seems - as if we would ever book with them again! I phoned today to get a refund on my credit card so that I could book flights and hotel elsewhere to be told this was not possible and I had to wait for them to send me a cheque with no interest added!

Have been looking on the internet this cancellation thing seems to be quite a regular thing with fred olsen line and its old boats

Exactly what we thought. Either that, rising fuel prices or underselling the cruise. Spoke to two staff at head office today, one in customer non-service and the other in accounts - neither apologised or seemed interested, just wanted to tell me about company policies and money laundering.:rolleyes:
