Hi guys,
In order to have an ADSL connection, must I subscribe to a BT landline, pay £29.99 connection, and sign up for 18 months? This doesn't work very well for rented accommodation and I'm not sure I'll be there for 18 months.
Thanks.

Not necessarily, you could sign up for any provider that offers a resold BT phone service, such as the post office - though you'd need to be sure that the provider offers a monthly contract and doesn't tie it in with the broadband in some way. This should give you the freedom you require.
Hope that helps,
